Feeling disconnected from society, speech problems, possible hallucinogen persisting perception disorder?

Hi all,

I'm in a bit of a pickle right now. I went down a hole with substances for a few months. Quite often i would do them day after day for around a week at a time. After a while i noticed I was feeling disconnected from society, and now i stuff up my speech quite alot, i might have hppd, and i feel anxiety most of the time. I've been sober for almost a month now and i'm not feeling much better. Also, im not really connecting with my family or friends very well. The only times I feel normal is when im doing the things I know how to do, like when im working. I used to swim but I'm getting back into it.

I've not seen a doctor or had counselling and not sure how I should go about it if I did. I understand that binging like i did was incredibly stupid and thats my own fault, but I'd like to feel somewhat normal again. Any help really would be appreciated!

Hi Ryanjs,

Firstly, welcome to the forums and well done for reaching out for help.

I think the first thing is you have gone off this substance which is great as you have seen what it can do to your day to day life. My first point would be to make an appointment with your local GP and advise of this and they can best direct you to best form of help and I dare say they will book a mental health plan for you to speak to a counsellor to discuss all your feelings and try and help you understand and alleviate your anxiety.

My best for you,

Jay

Hi Jay,

Thanks for your reply. I'll book an appointment for sure if i don't pick up soon.
Just one more question, is there anything I could do/know that would make it a little bit easier for now?

Hi Ryanjs,

Thanks for replying. It's a little hard for me to give advice on this particular style of anxiety as I have never had an addiction to anything as serious as a substance. In speaking about general anxiety symptoms which I deal with daily, I can suggest finding something you love and doing it as much as you can, something as simple as going for a walk, going to the gym... I understand you feel disconnected from friends so exercising is one way to get positive energy running through you and to help your mood increase. Really anything that helps to take your mind of it, watch a movie, read a book, listen to music... if you have any interest in reading I'd go a get a book and just focus on reading, anything to take your mind away from it. Join in other parts of these forums too and talking to people on their threads and trying to help them etc is good too.

My best,

Jay
