Hi - my work place is going through a restructure and my role has been impacted - I’ve been stepped down a level in terms of reporting lines and have a new job scope. I’ve been in shock and very upset. It’s been affecting my sleep and me personally. I’ve tried spending the day off with my husband to the movies however I just couldn’t stop thinking about it and dreading the outcomes/likely impacts. Is this normal - it’s only been day 1 of receiving the news

Hi, welcome
A "company restructure" is in my view a management cliché of employees changes to save money. It never seems to be the reverse. So I'm always suspicious of these company changes as being a methos of returning you to a level that they want for whatever reason.
That being said, change is difficult for many people, nearly everyone has discomfort in change. This can come in the form of a new baby in the family to moving house to even updating your car. In the workplace it can cause embarrassment, lower earning contributing to financial pressure and a negative effect on your resume. Yes, its a destabilizing development.
It often is only after a period of time that you can accept the changes, this allows you to readjust and most importantly you usually will have a different perspective on the change. To help that process try to think of the basics you have in life like- a roof over your head, food, car and so forth. I broke my ankle years ago, in a wheelchair for 8 weeks and it really caused that line of thinking to take place. Now walking my dogs I use a cane due to knee and hip issues but I'm always reminding myself that "I'm lucky to be walking".

Thanks so much Tony WK. I will try to remind myself of your advice. I agree that only time will heal - and if I am to change the situation, I will look for other opportunities elsewhere, but that too takes time.
i will try my best to stand tall and face the crowd at work noting that I have not done anything wrong to deserve this.
Thanks again.
