We are having a family get together at my sons. My DIL is VERY organised so she has assigned who brings what but she has the largest most expensive portion by her choice. We do a Kris Kringle to make present buying manageable. We have traditional Christmas food because we want it not because the media tells us to. My grandkids all plan on a big water fight. That has become a tradition because the kids love it. Costs nothing except washing the extra set of clothes.

My 5 year old grandson asked if he could take one of my Christmas stockings for his youngest brother. He was concerned his 17 mth old brother might feel left out not have as cool a stocking as his brothers. I really liked that the 5 year old was looking out for his brother.

I agree about the commercialism. It horrifies me

My son isn't coming home for Christmas now and the waterworks have already started. Can't wait til we're done here. There IS all this pressure on needing to do stuff and be with people. I really wish I hadn't internalised it.

So the new plan is food if I can brave the shop in this mental state, beach in the arvo, a movie, and probably a "mother's little helper" at some point. Bah humbug!

Sorry to everyone else doing it tough too. This time of year can really suck a big one.

Wishing everyone peace and calm over the next few days.

Best wishes

Hi Katy, beach and a movie sounds like a great plan! I'm so sorry you're down. I am too, it's this time of year it makes it really tough doesn't it? Hope people are around in the Café tomorrow...

I'm half way through the first DVD of The Bridge and it's got me hooked! Xmas Eve alone except for a church service at 9pm tonight and tomorrow alone with Sam - I got him two new toys as he loves to play tug-o-war... but I think it's going to be hot and smoky...

Wish Sam and I could walk along the beach with you guys! Take care and do drop by tomorrow.... sending best wishes and furry hugs from Sam because you're feeling down - nothing like cuddles from a warm doggie!

Hi Hanna

Please thank Sam for the hug. I really needed that. I hope he enjoys his new toys. I must go and get Stormy something to put under the tree today. It's supposed to be pretty warm tomorrow so the beach will be nice, and yes I definitely wish you guys could join us 🙂

Love and hugs to everyone here in the Christmas thread. Go gentle on yourselves.

Sam sends you another furry hug Katy (he's a very loving dog) and he'd give you a rather sloppy doggy kiss on the cheek too if he could (he does that a lot to little kids they get the giggles!) We're here thinking of you. xxx

Hello CMF,

I realize that today isn't a good day for you, but I wanted to let you know that you are not alone.

I'm spending today alone at home, with my pet bird for company.

I hope that everyone can (to their best ability) enjoy this day. And for those who can't, I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone today.

My thoughts will be there on this day.

Hi CMF, I totally understand I just went to bed a while ago I was feeling so homesick and miserable alone and so wishing I hadn't messed up my life by moving here I just went to bed to blot it all out for a while. Christmas just is a bad time for some of us. I really feel for you and everyone else feeling the same. The café is quiet I think a lot of people are feeling really down. Take care we're dragging through the day here too - was trying to keep my spirits up but couldn't manage it for a while there. Trying to keep the TV going for some background noise... Hang in there tomorrow at least it's nearly over for another year, just Boxing Day to get through then it's over... hugs from my doggie Sam to you.

Hope you're getting through OK SilvaLady, I hit a trough a while ago, made myself get out of bed for a while now, hope you're managing OK. It's a tough day for people alone. How are you feeling? best wishes from Sam and me here.
