🌱 Diary- 5 Things You Noticed in Nature Today

Can you think of 5 things you noticed or observed in nature today, using all your senses?

I was wondering if this would be a beneficial exercise to help us focus on something else instead of painful emotions, troubled thoughts, over thinking, anxiety feelings and the darkness of that alone place.

As well as to see that there really is beauty all around us....

Hi leelee

It sounds like you live on a farm or property with a lot of nature around you. I don't think I could actually hold a snake though. And I am truly glad you feel better. You are doing so well noticing the beauty around you. Good on you!

Hi Bellabee

Yes I agree with you, looking for things around us can help us to take our eyes of ourselves including any unhelpful thoughts we may think. For me it helps me to see and appreciate beauty around me as well .

Good on you Bellabee!

Within the last 2 days, temperature has dropped by 20C, hard not to feel.

So birdsong is back on and there's a frog using the water tank overflow pipe as a megaphone.

Due to yesterday's rain, there's a musty smell in the air.

Ant activity is full-on, around nests and along chosen pathways.

I discovered a couple of ripe strawberries under the leaves before birds did, they tasted terrific, rich and sweet.

How are you going Star?

I am now imagining a loud croak of a frog. We have one too that lives in the downpipe near the front verandah. The croak definitely sounds quite loud and hollow like.

Five things today

I felt the softness of freshly washed blankets

I smelt the nice smell of washing powder

Felt the dirt under my feet

seen the smiles on my kids faces

Tasted the great taste of fresh eggs from the chooks

Hi LeeLee, and I must say that its great how you are really getting something out of this great thread of Shelley's. It is a form of mindfulness after all, and I also find it very beneficial. And enjoyable at the same time. Nice to see you here on a regular basis.

My 5 things today are:

  1. The sound of black cockatoos at the bottom of our block, followed by Tammie's frantic bark as she stands at the bottom of the tree looking up at them and trying to get them to move them on
  2. The sight of parrots coming in and stealing grapes from the vines running the length of our deck
  3. The taste of sweet white grapes as I pluck several from the vine (thats a few that the birds wont get!)
  4. The smell of damp earth after the overnight rain
  5. The feel of welcome coolness as a light shower of rain dampens my bare skin

Yesterday I noticed

1) The formation of all the petals that make up an Agapanthus flower

2) Different colours and shapes of spiders

3) Patterns on the wings of a butterfly

4) Twisted twigs on one of our trees

5) The colour of tree trunks once the bark falls off

This is the biggest help i have found that is changing my day to day life slowly but getting there

Im on everyday unless really busy with kids

But yesterday

I saw mumma ravin taking her little ones for there first fly

Watched the leaves flotting in the pond

Smelt the lovely smell of puppy breath

felt the smoothness of tomato plant leaves as i fixed them up

Felt the roughness of the goats horns
