Anyone had to spend days alone without anyone to talk to?

Hi all, apart from here and a brief visit to church last night (to make it feel Christmassy and to just be with people) I've had day after day for weeks now with nobody at all to talk to. This time of year especially it's really depressing. Old friends that live far away are gradually losing contact with me - I ring them but they don't ring me. I understand they're busy with their live elsewhere but still it's hard when you're lonely. I'm going to a Christmas Eve service at the local church tomorrow night to at least be with people for a little while... but otherwise all day I'm alone, just me and the dog. Sometimes I strike up a conversation on BB but then the other person disappears and that's the end of that...
How are people meant to cope with prolonged periods of social isolation? I read, I watch DVDs, normally I'd go for long walks with the dog but thick smoke from bushfires and intense hot weather have stopped that. I go to a café alone sometimes. Any ideas/help?

I understand now, Hanna. For whatever reason your neighbour does not come out of her place much, this indicates to you, she would not be the kind of friend you want, which is someone you can sit & talk with in the same room, or go out with, sometimes. Maybe share lunch, a coffee, books, music & someone who could walk your dog, & you theirs, when one of you is sick? Maybe more, like being someone to trust if you had to be away, or having a holiday?
h mm - I don't know where to fiind one of those... having not found one myself, you understand, but presumably they do exist. If people on BB are anything to go by, I ought to be tripping over them! 😼
Admittedly, I stay in so much, there is little chance of tripping over even one. That's the problem. We won't find good friends while staying alone at home.
But, I'm not suggesting anyone rush out today or even tomorrow - not unless you have a really good ☔, or☂🌂two, just in case...someone needs one.😺

I just found you but these changes they have made have made everything so much harder?
I hope you have recovered from illness and are feeling better.

Hi Mark,
Well done! It takes some getting used to doesn't it! I can't seem to get the ladies I usually talk to to reply so I think they might be having difficulty.
I'm figuring it out slowly but I miss being able the my threads/new threads that we used to have.
I'm well thanks, my little dog has had surgery but he's slowly recovering and I owe the vet a lot of money! 🙂🐶
How are your children going? Is your daughter still enjoying the Rspca? 🐺🐕

Hi Hanna I think a lot are struggling with the new format.I know at first I couldn't find my own threads but slowly.I give it some time and see if I get use to it.
My daughter worked today at the RSPCA and loves it there.Shes been doing everything from feeding to playing and training the animals to taking photos and putting the ones forsale on the website. She also been naming the cats.My son has been a handful over the holidays.I had covid the other week but it was only mild but did have some bad nose bleeds which could have been related to it.
I hope Sam recovers from his surgery ok.

Hello Hanna,
I hope this reply works... I'm having a lot of trouble getting things to work... I thought I replied to you earlier... who knows where that went.... when I started this reply it said I had auto-saved content (my earlier post probably)... but nothing appeared when I clicked on it... anyway...
How is Sam doing after his surgery... did they take out many teeth?...
I do hope you are both staying warm & dry... have you had much rain where you are? It has been bitterly cold here... unusually so
I will say sorry in advance if my posts are sporadic... I will get the hang of this I hope
Hugs
