Coping in the emergency department

Centaured
Community Member
Sometimes in mental health crisis's we end up in the emergency department. And that totally ok, being safe is important.
but how do we cope with our crisis while waiting?
What are some helpful strategies you have found useful during your stay in the department?

I often get stuck in the emergency room waiting room overnight due to the fact there is no mental health team 24/7 where I live. I'm really struggling being here tonight. My usual strategies of listening to music isn't really working so I'm wondering if there is anything else I should try. Please note my concentration and attention is limited due to being in crisis. I feel trapped and stuck.
I wish lifeline text was 24/7 coz I could really use someone to talk to. Are there any other online options as I cant really call someone due to the nature of a waiting room.

Hi Centaured

How are you doing now?

Love EM

Hey EM

I'm not doing well.

I can't bring myself to get up and talk to nurse. (Cops got called on me last night, I've spent another night in ER).

hey centaured I would like to welcome you to this wonderful online community and I would also like to applaud you for your incredible strength and bravery in asking for help its takes courage and it is something that you should be very proud of. I'm really sorry that your going through this really hard time but I promise there is light at the end of the tunnel I can speak from personal experience I was scared of speaking out and asking for help but I did and its helped me to overcome my demons. I highly recommend you go to your gp and talk about your current situation to them and then they can refer you to a qualified professional I know its scary I was scared too scared of feeling judged but it is necessary and they will support and the this online community is with you every step of the way.

I'm soooo stressed.

They might involuntarily feed me. I'm terrified.

TAFE is scaring me and i can't do it.

My boyfriend wants sex and I'm just shutting down.

Passing out is a thing now.

Shaking is like 24/7

Sleep doesn't happen.

I'm tired of pain.

I want my body to work.

Emergency refuses to treat me now.

I saw my psychologist this morning. She see I've given up.

I'm really scaring myself now.

I am safe though. .
It's just. So. Damn. Stressful. Being me.

Hi, sorry today is a sucky day, that sounds scary
I hope you are okay

It is really hard to balance study with mental health struggles, the two together is not the easiest ... sending well wishes to get through the day and all that entails for you

hope you get some sleep or rest

Thanks sleepy
I managed 3hrs sleep.

I'm terrified of seeing my GP today.

Hello Centaured, nice to hear back from you, but particularly sorry for you.

I don't believe your boyfriend is taken into consideration how you are feeling, by wanting to have sex, although he maybe looking at trying to make you feel better.

I have watched a fascinating clip which you can copy and paste

https://youtu.be/_ICREZm9CtE

which I hope you can watch.

Take care and will get back to you.

Geoff.

Geoff I have seen that clip before it is true, we can become prisoners if our mind.

I'm trying really hard not to get anxious about my appointments today. I'm about to have lunch with Ng case manager. I'm going to try really hard to eat it. Beat anorexia one bite at a time lol.
