Words of comfort, encouragement and wisdom

To all the beautiful people 🌞

Words placed in a particular order can have a profound effect on us.

Words can bring us a moment of comfort, give us a different perspective, or change the course of our thinking and outlook entirely.

I would like this to be a space where we share quotes that have meaning to us or that have the potential to bring some comfort or encouragement to somebody, even if just for the moment in which they are reading it.

I will start.

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow." - Mary Anne Radmacher

Go gently with yourselves lovely people.

For all us overthinkers and catastrophiers...

"But... what if it all goes right??"

- unknown

Anon - "But..what if all goes right??" Overthinker - "Um..?" (silence). I think we spend so much energy worrying about what can go wrong and what we can do to fix it that we may not even fathom that nothing may ever happen!

I read the other day that 95 % of what we worry about will never happen. So instead of embracing that information and feeling relived do you know what I did? Of course I started thinking about the mere 5% of stuff that could happen! Grrr, I exhaust me 🙂

If you could see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole life would change.

When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.

I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief. I come into the presence of still water. And I feel above me day-blind stars waiting for their light.

For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

Wendell Berry, born 1934

I think if us humans are lucky enough to cross paths with non-human animals or even welcome them into our own families, we can learn so much from them.

While I think they have personalities and spirits of their own, and exist for their own purpose and reasons separate to us humans, they still manage to comfort and enrich so many people and lives simply by being Who they are 🙂

For the animal lover:

Why does watching a dog be a dog fill one with such happiness?

When I look into the eyes of an animal, I do not see an animal. I see a living being. I see a friend. I feel a soul.

- A.D. Williams

P.S. Sometimes I secretly wonder about a career change to become a zoologist or veterinarian...

I've been "thinking about my thinking" so here's some that relate to that:

  • we cannot control everything, we can choose how we react (unknown author)
  • ask yourself often: am i observing the situation accurately or am i projecting how i feel onto what is happening? (unknown author)

Great thread,

I like this one when I want to give up or deppresion makes me want to do nothing.

"life is like riding a bike, to keep your balance you must keep moving"

Albert Einstein.

really nice quote iamanxiety - so true.

a saying that I get a glimpse of sometimes as I'm walking to work is:

"it doesn't get easier -

you get better"

Really hits the spot sometimes, to remind myself with how far i've come in coping with challenges in life.

If the beach or the ocean helps comfort your weary heart, you might like the next two:

Salt water heals, healing referring to its various forms; tears, cleanses and heals the soul; sweat, cleanses through labour; the ocean, heals in all its forms.

- Rabindranath Tagore

The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.

- Jacques Yves Cousteau

This feels empowering for me, maybe it will speak to someone else too x

"You own everything that happened to you. Tell your stories. If people wanted you to write warmly about them they should have behaved better".
