To all the beautiful people π
Words placed in a particular order can have a profound effect on us.
Words can bring us a moment of comfort, give us a different perspective, or change the course of our thinking and outlook entirely.
I would like this to be a space where we share quotes that have meaning to us or that have the potential to bring some comfort or encouragement to somebody, even if just for the moment in which they are reading it.
I will start.
Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow." - Mary Anne Radmacher
Go gently with yourselves lovely people.

Thanks Everyone for your wonderful, thoughtful and inspiring words.
On Facebook today I read the following, I do not know who wrote it.
Just because you are struggling doesn't mean you are failing!
Cheers all from Dools

Sometimes you climb out of bed in the morning and you think , I'm not going to make it, but you laugh inside remembering all the times you've felt that way.

As Dools said, thank you all for generously sharing π
This has been something that Iβve been working on, and perhaps in hindsight, not always consciously either. I hadnβt realised what I was doing till I stumbled upon the following words. I had been trying to build resilience:
He explained that our amount of resilience isnβt fixed, so I should be asking instead how I could become resilient. Resilience is our strength and speed of response to adversity - and we can build it. It isnβt about having a backbone. Itβs about strengthening the muscles around our backbone.

Some gentle words of encouragement for anyone who might be going through a hard time: one is about self nurturance/compassion and one to help you celebrate any and all achievements π
When you are struggling, wrap yourself in a blanket of compassion and tenderness (instead of a self loathing shame blanket).

Feeling discouraged? Do something easy: wax the car, cut the lawn, etc. Even small tasks work towards building real momentum.

We all deal with lost: jobs lost, loves lost, livess lost. The question is not whether these things will happen. They will, and we will have to face them.
Resilience comes from deep within us, and from support outside us. It comes from gratitude for whatβs good in our lives and leaning into the suck.* It comes from analysing how we process grief and from simply accepting that grief. Sometimes we have less control than we think. Other times we have more.
I learned that when life pulls you under, you can kick against the bottom, break the surface and breathe again.
- From the book, Option B: Facing adversity, building resilience and finding joy, Sheryl Sandberg & Adam Grant
*feeling our own emotions.
Additional notes:
This small snippet is from a book that was co-written by Sandberg and Grant after Sandberg lost her spouse. Grant was Sandbergβs friend (and he also happened to be a psychologist) that was one of the many people who helped her piece her life back together.
In addition to Sandbergβs story/experiences, there are other stories about how various people coped with loss, trauma and tragedy. How they rebuilt their lives post-tragedy to find their βoption B.β
This book has personally helped me a lot and while it may not suit everyone, I wanted to share snippets from it (just in case it offers some comfort/guidance) π

This is for anyone who finds comfort in and shows/gives love and care through cooking:
Some days, time moves slowly and I think too much. Cooking gives me something to look forward to....It gives me oxygen...No matter where I am, I can try to recreate home...Cooking gives me comfort and helps me focus. It filled me with happiness to think I could help her with food...it was my way to say βTake this from my homeland, I have nothing else to give.β

On growth and evolution:
Be like a tree. Stay grounded. Connect with your roots. Turn over a new leaf. Bend before you break. Enjoy your unique natural beauty. Keep growing.

In every change, in every falling leaf there is some pain, some beauty. And thatβs the way new leaves grow.
