Walking Shoes - Walking and Other Exercise

Hey to anyone reading this.

Last night I had an idea about starting a new thread about exercise especially walking. I am aware that walking is very beneficial for our mental, emotional and physical well being. And by actually doing it....well it can make a huge difference to how we cope with the storms that we face in life.

OK, I am not real good at disciplining myself to walk, and have to really push myself to do it. And sometimes it is even hard to leave this bedroom. Anyway I am not a beginner walker, as I have stuck to sort of a plan before. So I know that it does make me feel somewhat better. But I only stayed on the plan for a couple of months, then gave up.....for whatever reason. So here I am again wanting desperately to not fail this time.

So I guess this thread is for anyone that does walk, anyone that is struggling to walk because of depression or anxiety issues. And anyone else really......

I am unsure of the outcome of all this. But my ideas included: Sharing about things we have found out about exercise especially about walking. Writing down the reasons that one would chose to walk ( like something to help motivate). Being accountable in same way. Sharing about the places where we actually do walk, like the beach, gym, around the block, with the dog, out to the clothesline and back. And any other useful tips that could help others. So here we go......

Today I rode around the block and walked on Breakwater Path. Might go for a walk somewhere different tomorrow if I am able.

The walk on the path was great. I went just as it was getting dark, but still light enough to see. As I turned around at the end of the path to head back.. It was beautiful the lowering clouds were like an orangey pinky colour. They stayed that way for a bit. The lights in the city were on. A mixture of scattered white, orange, red and green lights dotted everywhere.

I walked briskly out there today.

I was 11 when a back neighbour offered me and my sister 2 old bikes their kids no longer used. We hadn't lived anywhere before that suited to bike riding and my parents couldnt afford to buy us bikes

We had to fix the bikes up so we could ride them. Last time I rode I got a puncture and had to walk home for miles pushing my bike. I decided it was too hard after that. The balance bike is one with no pedals. Today I walked while the 3 grandsons rode. The 2 year old would yell out instructions to his older brothers as if he was the boss. I street had several houses with lovely rockeries at the front. Mr 2 would dump his bike to climb the rocks. He couldn't understand his dad telling him that the owners didn't want him climbing their rocks. As far as he is concerned the world is there for his enjoyment.

Hi dear Elizabeth

It was kind of your neighbours to offer the bikes to you and your sister. I think I was about 8 or 9 years old when I received a green bike for Christmas. Green was my favourite colour.

I have never actually fixed a puncture.

I can imagine a two year old climbing over rocks.

Just recently got back from a walk up near the main road. It is a bit of a hill, but not overly steep. Walked up to the traffic lights. It was quite still the air out there and pretty quite.

Hello to Shell, Elizabeth, Grandy and All,

My parents couldn't afford bikes for us either and we were given some when I was about 12 years old. My Dad had some spare paint so we were able to change the colour. Mine was red!

Last week I went for a walk in a different conservation park. There has been rain in our region, so it was lovely to see a large pool of water that was attracting some birds. Everything was so green and lush, it was lovely.

I was told I was too clumsy for a bike so I did not get one. My brothers had old bikes that had been ridden by many children,..

Hi beautiful and awesome people. (I love that greeting, so paying it forward)

Today I went walking on Breakwall Path and the beach. The sunshine felt real good on my skin. I decided to walk barefoot on the path... Ah what can I say.. I have learnt from my mistake. I ended up with blisters on my feet. And right at this very moment, I am soaking them in water that has epsom salts, lavender oil and eucalyptus oil. I have walked on the path before without shoes. So yeah I dont know. I did walk a bit more briskly so I am assuming this is what caused them. I ended up walking back the beach way as the sand was softer.

Hey Mrs D,

I had noticed you were not much on the forums. Is your work ok now? Hope you are feeling a bit better now.

That is great you found some "lovely" on your walk. It's so nice to appreciate beauty.

And did you like your red bike?

Hi Quirky

Do you think you will go bike riding one day? Might help squash the "clumsy" spoken over your life or something

Hi Shelll,

It is a shame you ended up with blisters! Those blighters hurt don't they! I tried my old walking boots recently and had blisters on my toes.

I've not been very well lately. My husband is struggling with his mental health as well. We are both exhausted! Hard to get anything much done around the home. The issues at work have not been resolved. The boss has made no time at all to address my issues.

I'm planning on doing some housework this morning and rewarding myself with a drive and a walk in a park this afternoon. We have some sunshine after some days of rain.

Cheers to you and all from Dools
