Hey to anyone reading this.
Last night I had an idea about starting a new thread about exercise especially walking. I am aware that walking is very beneficial for our mental, emotional and physical well being. And by actually doing it....well it can make a huge difference to how we cope with the storms that we face in life.
OK, I am not real good at disciplining myself to walk, and have to really push myself to do it. And sometimes it is even hard to leave this bedroom. Anyway I am not a beginner walker, as I have stuck to sort of a plan before. So I know that it does make me feel somewhat better. But I only stayed on the plan for a couple of months, then gave up.....for whatever reason. So here I am again wanting desperately to not fail this time.
So I guess this thread is for anyone that does walk, anyone that is struggling to walk because of depression or anxiety issues. And anyone else really......
I am unsure of the outcome of all this. But my ideas included: Sharing about things we have found out about exercise especially about walking. Writing down the reasons that one would chose to walk ( like something to help motivate). Being accountable in same way. Sharing about the places where we actually do walk, like the beach, gym, around the block, with the dog, out to the clothesline and back. And any other useful tips that could help others. So here we go......

Sorry Shell. My mistake! It was an 11 mth old in the carrier. My grandkids all like to walk except the 11 mth old is too young but his parents are already planning to buy him a balance bike as soon as he can fit on one so he can bike ride with his brothers. Yesterday was very wet so didn't walk. I was still saw from spraining a muscle on our adventure.
Welcome Rose Good on you for starting walking.

Hi Shelll. Hope you had a nice day & nice to know that it put a smile on your face about my name in part... "the ole chook" Am serious about that yet I have a younger person's outlook. No walkies for me today. Too busy getting things organized after hearing the short notice on the breaking news that Melbourne is back in stage 3 again starting Wednesday night 11.59pm for 6 weeks. Grrr.... it's for our safety hopefully to get it back in control. Enjoy your day..

Hi Shelll
Hope you're keeping well. Still no walkies. This ole chook Been so busy getting ready for 6wk lockdown that I can say with all the walking in & outside doing things can be counted as a form of exercise.
Very strict restrictions with no visitors for anyone at all so I'm ready to what's allowed. Will definitely doing walkies inside. The weather too cold & is 1 deg cel atm.
Take care

Hi Shelley, and the Rose and all
Yes that is me - the inside walker 🙂
I have ventured out a bit more lately and even did some walking near water, thinking of you Shell. Looks like we're in for torrential rain for a week so I'll be pacing the floorboards again...

Today my husband & I went for a walk in the national park near us. We are going to try doing a longer different walk each week during lockdown to keep his fitness & bushwalking skills up. He has deteriorated through the restrictions.
I checked the computer to find suitable tracks giving us a walk of suitable distance. i took some food for a picnic lunch which we had in the car after the walk before heading to do food shopping. I don't think we're allowed to sit on seats in a park with the lockdown. The sun shone through the windows so it was nice in the car after the long walk. sections of the walk were quite steep through forest. There were some lovely views across the suburbs towards the city. It is funny being in such bush surrounds but so close to civilisation .

Hi annie-1 the inside Walker Nice meeting. Shelll had posted about how you walk inside to keep fit. Most of my walkies is done indoors. It has its advantages always feel a lot afterward with stretches then walk when can. Sometimes I walk outside & now in total lockdown in Melbourne, I've decided to walk indoors.
Take care... the rose

How are you going Rose?
Oh yeah I did smile when you mentioned the "ole chook" Are you from New Zealand at all? I have an Aunty living over there, and she calls people chook.
How are you going walking in your house? And oh yes all that getting around ready for the lock down would be like moving your body, perhaps bending and lifting things.
You can do quite a few exercises inside your house too. I sometimes dance, when no one can actually see me.
There is also exercises you can do whilst sitting in a chair. Plenty on ytube to follow along too. Even for more senior people.

Hi Elizabeth...
Ah a picnic in the car with the sunshine coming in. I like doing that sort of thing.
The balance bike you mentioned, is that the one with no pedals?

Thankyou for thinking of me Annie.
It's often nice waking near the water. Do you like that sort of thing?
I have not done any walking or exercise since the last time I wrote about it. So about a week ago.. My body feels very sluggish because of it. And I have no bounce in my step.
I will pick myself up again and get with it.
Floorboards are really nice in a house, I like them. Do you actually have them or was that a saying your were talking about?
Have a good day tomorrow
Shelley

Sorry you haven't been able to walk or exercise lately. I didn't walk today but did some gardening. Trying to finish replanting strawberry plants. Yesterday did a short walk with my husband between rain showers.
Yes the balance bike is one without pedals.
Rose is there a park or quiet walking track you can use to get out of the house for exercise. I find that helps me. Obviously I now choose less popular areas where I can stay physically distanced from others. Today the exposure therapist wants me to go out 7 offered to write me a letter in case the police accuse me of breaking lockdown. Unfortunately the areas which I need to visit seem to be all in rural Vic. Need to do more homework to find suitable places to go where I can expose myself to triggers but also exercise.
