*Trigger warning* Eating for Health and Wellness

I have been struggling eating and eating healthy foods over the last couple of weeks. I really do not want to go back further to how I use to eat, that is eating junk food, takeaways, copious amounts of chocolate, processed junk and comfort eating.

Finding it challenging to stay motivated to actually prepare what I know helps me feel better mentally, emotionally and physically. Plus I have been feeling overwhelmed with other stuff happening in my life, which somehow makes it more challenging. The old unhealthy comfort eating thing is coming back. And I think I am getting concerned and scared about that. I so much do not want to go back to how I use to be. I was so sick. Plus I now have some physical things not right in my body , so I need to be more careful and mindful of what I eat. ( Pre cancer cells , high blood pressure )

I was eating really well since Febuary of this year, it’s just the last couple of weeks I haven’t.

So I would like to use this thread to help me be accountable to Beyond Blue people. So like a diary where I can post and report what I eat. And also any healthy eating tips, motivating strategies to help eat better or anything related to healthy eating for our bodies including our mental health.

Hi Shell,

Where U live is temptation central!

When I'm at home sometimes I can't be bothered getting ready to go out when a craving hits so just stay home and it passes.

All your salad eating sounds great Grandy Nom Nom ...it def keeps the weight down.

Im not a fan of quinoa personally, still have the pack I bought sitting in the cupboard after trying it one time.

Morning

Not feel that good today. Withdrawal from junk. Headache, so very tired.

Hi all,

Hows the eating going Shell? I'm doing pretty good and the scale has dropped slightly...just need it to keep dropping. I eat out quite often which makes it a little difficult with the quite big portion sizes. Might be going to subway today which I love. I could live off subway.

Hi MM

What do you normally buy at subway? I think it's much better then some other takeaways. I normally buy 6 inch malted rye or multi gran wrap with falafels, avocado, spinach, lettuce, tomato, carrot, sometimes cucumber and a small amount of sweet onion sauce.

Do you feel a bit encouraged seeing your weight drop a bit? I am quite hesitant to see how much I weigh.

Yeah some places give huge meals. I generally get like a side plate of vegetables, including a potato at some places. Though I do not eat out a lot at restaurants etc. Grilld has pretty nice burgers. I have ordered a sweet chili chicken burger... Minus the chicken before.

How am I... The last couple of days I have been eating a very large salad at lunch. Its super filling. Plus a green juice. But I have been eating a block of chocolate in the late afternoons. Too full to eat any more fibre type foods. So I thought that was pretty good eating all the nutritional stuff.

Salad today had: square bits of marinated tofu, black beans, corn kernals, baby spinach, avocado and this salsa I made yesterday. Second time making a salsa. ( tomatoes, red capsicum, cumin, lime juice, chili flakes, sea salt )

I also made a iced coffee in the early am. Sweetened with maple syrup, vanilla, soymilk and instant coffee

I am feeling a little bit more clear headed. Not much though. Feeling quite far away and not real. Think it may be the junk food in my body still.

Not sure what else to say now.

See you later MM

Hi Shell and all,

I order many different varieties of subway. I usually eat it during my lunch break and work. I also order it from home.

I just love what U make for yourself at home Shell, very nourishing indeed.

It does encourage me when the weight drops but it never keeps dropping. I've been in a plateau for many months now which is discouraging.

Facing our weight can be hard, it's also a good catalyst for change not that anything's been changing on my end for some time.

Did you or do you intermittenly fast MM? Maybe that would help you.

I know from my history... that as soon as I got into the rhythm of only eating whole foods mostly plants weight just fell off me. And also juicing. I wasn't really thinking much about the weight. My ultimate goal was to be healthy and fit. I also went to the gym more too.

Yeah they do have a lot of variety at subway. I forgot to mention that I have bought bowls of salad from there too. And simply added my own homemade dressings.

Today I made smashed avocado on a toasted seeded wholegrain roll. First time making that. So yum. The avocado had other ingredients... can't remember at the moment. I topped it with tomato, cooked chickpeas that had cumin and smoked paprika added to them and then sprinkled it all with dried basil. I also made a light vegetable soup... I ate that for dinner.. but it was super spicy... Put too much chili flakes in it.

Do you get ubber eats at home then

Ate junk last night.. Feel not so good this morning because of it. Large packet of chips from the service station down the street and 1 block of chocolate. Headache, foggy and heavy head, so tired. All my determination to eat nourishing foods seemed to go last night. Struggling with sadness, disconnected to other people, aloneness, bored, not real... Same struggle as last night

Just venting is all

Hi Shelly, Magic and everyone...🤗..

I haven’t really felt up to cooking since I had the surgery to remove a cyst on my back...,Dinner has been mostly foods zapped in the microwave...frankfurters with pocket bread wrapped around it...a pre cooked chicken and ready made salad from Coles.....

One of the salads I have left for tonight has quinoa in it...I will get to taste it for the first time..looking forward to having that tonight....

I am on a plateau and haven’t lost anymore weight..probably my fault because I’ve been having a chocolate drumstick each night...lol my body is craving them...I had the last one last night..Will have to wait now until next payday before I buy another box of 4...I really should try to have one every 2nd or 3rd night...

I tried those Kettle Chips last week..Jalapeño and red chilli...hmmm very nice but so hot that I could only have a few...still got most of the packet left...a few each night will take care of that though...Maybe if chocolate and ice cream had chilli in them...we wouldn’t be so tempted to eat so much....

You will get their dear Shelly...your want of healthy eating is strong..slipping up every so often is what we humans do....Please don’t be too hard on yourself...

My love, care and hugs everyone....

Grandy..

It's almost 5pm, and I have eaten shockingly the most un nourishing junk all day. Perhaps the worst I have ever done. I have much regret. I never planned it at all, its just how it worked out. I make such unwise and dumb choices. I hardly even think properly, just when my eyes saw them, just grabbed them.

I was planning on getting hot chips though. While they were cooking, I went into the supermarket and bought 1 block of chocolate and 1 packet of Tim tams. I ate it all within a couple of hours. Whole watching ytube and a movie on Amazon Prime.

Such regret. I hardly even remember tasting them.

I have eaten no proper meals at all. Not even fruit today.

So as I am writing this...Thought I may as well make a fresh juice. With cucumbers etc.

Hi Grandy... I will reply when I can

May you back feel better soon Grandy. Its sounds pretty painful. I had read your thread so....

Sounds like a good idea buying the salads and even the hot cooked chicken if one eats that sort of thing. Especially if it's hard to get around or recovering from surgery like you are.

That have quite a selection of different prepared salads in supermarkets now. And even cut up fruits.

I know which icecream you are talking about... like a corneto cone type icecream. I use to steal icecreams from my nans freezer when I was a child. She had boxes and boxes of them. I struggled with foods even back then. If I eat icecream now... It would be the pana brand as its a vegan one sweetened with coconut nector. The boysenberry tastes pretty good. But I never have issues with comfort eating on icecream. Hardly crave it.
