I have been struggling eating and eating healthy foods over the last couple of weeks. I really do not want to go back further to how I use to eat, that is eating junk food, takeaways, copious amounts of chocolate, processed junk and comfort eating.
Finding it challenging to stay motivated to actually prepare what I know helps me feel better mentally, emotionally and physically. Plus I have been feeling overwhelmed with other stuff happening in my life, which somehow makes it more challenging. The old unhealthy comfort eating thing is coming back. And I think I am getting concerned and scared about that. I so much do not want to go back to how I use to be. I was so sick. Plus I now have some physical things not right in my body , so I need to be more careful and mindful of what I eat. ( Pre cancer cells , high blood pressure )
I was eating really well since Febuary of this year, it’s just the last couple of weeks I haven’t.
So I would like to use this thread to help me be accountable to Beyond Blue people. So like a diary where I can post and report what I eat. And also any healthy eating tips, motivating strategies to help eat better or anything related to healthy eating for our bodies including our mental health.

And yeah.. Quite interesting reading your post. I like to know how other people take care of themselves in this way. It urges me on to keep going with my own health. So thankyou.
Thankyou for calling me a legend. Like that.
I have seen people paddling whilst standing up. And wondered how fun and if its challenging to do it. Like would you need good balance? I have seen them paddling along in very calm water.

Lately I have been eating real adventurous salads. Foods I haven't tried before. Or I have tried and not liked the taste of some of the food ingredients. One such food was and is fresh corriander or as the US says cilantro. I absolutely hated the taste of it. It used to taste like soap. Cough, cough, cough. But at the moment it tastes delicious. I am pretty sure the more you eat fresh vegetables and fruits the more your taste buds change to liking them. So yeah I felt encouraged by that change in hating the taste of it so much to really liking it. The more I think of it.... the more I can see slowly the taste bud change. Even Brussel sprouts were disgusting to me. Gross. They too are delicious finely shredded, and raw in a salad with a yummy dressing on it.
So anyone reading this... and hates vegetables. Be encouraged the more you eat them well often the taste buds change into enjoying them.
So yeah today's salad was supposed to be Vietnamese salad rolls. Using thin rice paper you roll up with yumminess in side. Then dip them in a tasty sauce and eat the crunchy morsels. The rice paper is new to me.... so I just wasn't confident with it. But I soon will be. So I put everything into a lettuce leaf and ate it extremely messy like.
Ingredients in the lettuce leaf were :
Lentil and walnut patte
Strips of thinly sliced vegetables.. capsicum, carrot, cucumber, yummy fresh corriander ( soft stems and leaves) radishes, diced red onion.
Then carefully dip it into a sauce of tamari, balsamic vinegar, maple syrup and a punch of mustard powder. There you have it. Yummy!
I have also been eating tons mandarines. And drinking green smoothies.
But also and I admit it eating comfort food of snack chocolate. And hot chips.
So that is where I am at in regards to food.

Hello Shelly and everyone..
Its been just over a month since I changed my eating habits..and I have lost 5 kilos...Which made me sooo happy..
Instead of Just frying up chips or zapping pies, or just having toast or crumpets....I am now eating fresh vegetables..,instead of frozen.,,,
Oh I love vegetables now I’ve discovered fresh ones, Brussel sprouts has always been a favourite of mine, they taste like little cabbages...I don’t know most of the different types of food talked about on this thread as I haven’t experimented much with different foods...only use the everyday basic foods...but I’m starting to learn.,.
I did comfort eat today....and that’s okay..it’s only one day out 30 days....Dark chocolate with cherries in it...only had 2 rows...then some kettle chips....I stopped their...Tonight it will be 1 carrot, 1 small potato, little bit of pumpkin, 4 x Brussel sprouts and 1 small zucchini...all roasted in my air fryer....
I have to be honest and tell you..that since I’ve started my new eating habits..I have been feeling healthier....Maybe give vegetables a try....I’m pleased Shelly that you are experimenting with Brussel sprouts...they really are yummy with grated grated garlic...
Kind thoughts everyone..
Grandy...🤗

That's awesome you lost 5 kg Grandy. I feel like clapping you on or something. Yeah why not. 🎉👏👏You are doing so well. And it inspires me to keep on going.
Fresh vegetables are super great. So many varieties of them to choose from. And they do heal our bodies. And we do feel healthier when we eat them. I like that nourished feeling.
I like all those vegetables you mentioned that you roast in the air fryer. Especially roast pumpkin. Yet to eat roast zucchini though. I like that in a stir fry and love making raw zucchini noodles.
If you have never tried zucchini noodles Grandy, I encourage you to try them. They are just fun to make I guess. You need a gadget called a spriraliser. You can buy tiny ones from most kitchen type shops. You feed young zucchini through it and it comes out like long spaghetti strands.
Yes Brussel sprouts do exactly look like mini cabbages.
If you ever want to know about any food I have mentioned. Feel free just to ask me. No pressure though.
I eat these seeds called flaxseeds and chia seeds. And also walnuts. Because I am trying to improve the health of my heart as well. These are good for this. Good source of omega 3... Omega 3 good for heart health amongst other things. Walnuts are so good for our brains
Anyway good on you Grandy

Giving up bread, pasta and rice is the hardest part of it all...I do love fresh bread and am missing it....maybe once my sugars and cholesterol go down I can limit myself to a couple of slices of bread a week....
I am so pleased that my new eating plan..but it’s getting boring, so thank you Shelly with your offer to help with the foods I don’t know about.....

Hello everyone....
I have continued to eat more fresh vegetables and fruit daily....and still eliminating bread, rice, pasta, white flour etc...I have noticed that I have more energy...not much motivation to use up the energy though😁...and seem to be sleeping a little better...
I did have some withdrawal symptoms from cutting out lots of sugary foods, starchy foods etc..but they have now passed...yay...
The biggest and most rewarding of all is I’ve lost another 4 kilos...yippie that 9 kilos so far..and I can see the difference in the mirror and feel the difference with my clothes getting loose...
One of my favourite dishes I’ve been making is..
Stir fry’s....I use mushrooms, zucchini, carrot, onions, garlic, cabbage, Brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, snow peas, add a bit of protein and olive oil....Cook it all together on my stove top...no stir fry sauce....just the olive oil and the juices from the vegetables are really enough flavour for me......I cook enough for a few nights..
I have tried carrot noodles, but not zucchini ones..I have ordered a spiraliser online and once it get delivered I will try zucchini noodles....
Oh white capped mushrooms is something new that I tried..and they are yummier then they look...
Kind thoughts everyone..,
Grandy.,

Oh Grandy you are doing so very well. I am happy for you. So super good for us all the vegetables. You are encouraging me by writing the improvements you have noticed with your self.
I am hoping to go better with eating. Like only choosing the foods that will be of benefit for me. I feel so much better when I do. More energy just like you experienced.
Struggling though with comfort eating.
Anyway just wanted to cheer you on. 👑🎉

Lately I have been experimenting with salads.
One of my favourites has finely shredded cabbage, red capsicum sliced thinly, carrot sliced thinly, diced apple, sultanas and a dressing.
Tonight I made a simple and similar one with cabbage, capsicum, watercress and fresh coriander. With a dressing.
The new vegetable I tried this week was watercress.
Smoothie I drank at 10am had coconut water, orange, mango, pineapple, spinach, flaxseeds and 1/2 teaspoon dried turmeric
Still having struggles with chocolate and hot chips
