I have been struggling eating and eating healthy foods over the last couple of weeks. I really do not want to go back further to how I use to eat, that is eating junk food, takeaways, copious amounts of chocolate, processed junk and comfort eating.
Finding it challenging to stay motivated to actually prepare what I know helps me feel better mentally, emotionally and physically. Plus I have been feeling overwhelmed with other stuff happening in my life, which somehow makes it more challenging. The old unhealthy comfort eating thing is coming back. And I think I am getting concerned and scared about that. I so much do not want to go back to how I use to be. I was so sick. Plus I now have some physical things not right in my body , so I need to be more careful and mindful of what I eat. ( Pre cancer cells , high blood pressure )
I was eating really well since Febuary of this year, it’s just the last couple of weeks I haven’t.
So I would like to use this thread to help me be accountable to Beyond Blue people. So like a diary where I can post and report what I eat. And also any healthy eating tips, motivating strategies to help eat better or anything related to healthy eating for our bodies including our mental health.

Hello Dear Shelly and everyone...🤗..
Oh Shelly it’s hard to cut down my cups of tea..I think I’m addicted to them😂...Have been having a few headaches, but not those huge withdrawal ones...I think the withdrawals are due to the caffeine in the tea.l.I have tried honey, not a fan of the way it changes the flavour of the tea...I tried those sweeteners a couple of years back and they caused my heart to misbehave...My Dr told me that sugar is better then the sweeteners...
I spray olive oil on top of the potatoes I put in the air fryer and they do turn out crispy...same with those frozen chips..they get crispy.....
Shelly don’t get me wrong and I hope I haven’t said anything to influence you in anyway...The air fryers are really good, and does everything a large oven does...it’s just smaller and more convenient for me then the bigger oven... I have cooked just about everything I want to in it...fish, chicken, vegetables, pies, sausage rolls, garlic bread...and they have all turned yummy....
Wail, I love dimsims, spring rolls...Do you make your own...maybe if you do, and you feel up to sharing your recipe on here...I would be very grateful....no pressure at all, only if you want to....
Okay..it’s breakfast time for me...
I hope you all enjoy your beautiful day that we have been blessed enough to wake up for...
My kindest thoughts lovely people and a beautiful 🌹 rose for your dining table...
Grandy..

Hello dear Grandy.
yeah cups of tea can be a warm soothing drink. Feels a bit like a hug on the inside. I have never really been into drinking like black tea, but over this last year, I have been enjoying herbal teas. There are so many to choose from. Some with therapeutic properties. Because I have been having issues with my teeth and gums, I will be ordering some horsetail and nettle tea soon. Teeth and gums like silica among other things. Horsetail is some kind of plant that has silica in it. So that will be an adventure trying a new tea.
And yeah I suppose honey would change the taste of the tea, wouldn't it. Artificial sweeteners...I stay away from those too. I normally use coconut sugar ( you may like that, didn't think it spikes our blood sugar levels like white sugar. I could be wrong about that though). I also use real maple syrup, date syrup, medjool dates or raw honey, for sweeteners. There is another sweetener that is in the supermarket. Its called stevia. Its from a plant also. Not artificial. You may like that. I don't though.
I am not sure if I understood you wrong or not Grandy in regards to the air fryer. It is such a logical idea of yours to use one if you are cooking for one. And it does appear easier to clean. I have done some looking into one before. Because as you properly know I like hot chips. So thought it would be healthier using less oil, or perhaps no oil to bake some in an air fryer. So I may get one in the future at one point. Just wanted to know your experience with one is all. And you pretty much answered that. So yeah generally I will make a decision after I research things like this. It is just what I do. Properly overthink things. idk
Thankyou very much for the red rose. In my imagination it's seems absolutely heavenly.
🌹

Hello Chan..
Is that your name?
There is not a lot of food in my kitchen tonight. I did make some beef and vegetable stew for my family yesterday. Would you like some of that?
It has mashed potato with it.
I hope you are doing ok there.

I have been attempting to drink a large smoothie every day for a while now. I have missed a couple of days though.
I am wanting to eat lots more green leafy vegetable, so this is a great way for me to do it. Plus I am also wanting to eat flax seeds. And I can add these to the blender as well.
My smoothie at the moment is:
3 or more cups of kale
1 peeled orange
1/2 cup frozen mango
1/2 cup frozen pineapple
1/4 cup flaxseeds
Coconut water.

LOSING A LITTLE BIT OF WEIGHT
Hi Guys. I'm new here and have found your comments interesting and motivating. Thanks for that!
Just thought I'd share how I lost 5kg over the last 6 weeks without any sacrifice at all. I thought Calorie counting, Diet formulas (eg 5:2 etc) were all a bit hard and kinda limiting. They just didn't interest me.
I wanted a method that was easy to embrace, and also easy to sustain.
So all I did was two things:
1. Eat slightly less
2.Eat only when feeling hungry.
That's it! So in the morning for example, I noticed I wasn't normally hungry at all, but used to still have breakfast. So I stopped having breakfast, had a cup of coffee, then found I started to feel hungry around 10-11am. That's when I had breakfast! And when "lunch Time" came around I just wasn't hungry at all. A small snack late afternoon put paid to any small hunger pangs, then early evening I could really feel like, and enjoy dinner. Yes, with a beer or a wine (or two).
Initially I did feel hungry a bit more often but I guess my stomach shrunk pretty quickly and now, after five weeks I find I'm only eating a "breakfast" late morning, maybe a vary small snack mid afternoon, then a dinner that is smaller than I used to have as I got 'Full' very easily. And feeling much "lighter" and clear headed.
So I think my eating was really a habit, and not because my body needed to eat.
So the 5kg came off pretty easily (from 79kg down to 74kg) and painlessly. No fad diet, no sacrifices.
The key is to listen to your body - if you are not hungry, ask yourself why you want to eat? Is it habit?
lastly, I should add that I do a lot of endurance exercise (cycling, stand up paddling) and have improved my times with no ill effects at all.
Drink plenty of water and eat only when you feel hungry. Maybe your stomach will shrink and so will your weight!
Let me know what you think and what you may have tried to lose weight. I'd be really interested in reading how you went! Cheers for now!

Hi Shell. Let me start off by saying I think you are a bloody legend!
Always active, never scared to share how you are going and the challenges that you are facing.
Keep it going! I posted a comment today on this forum on how I lost 5kg with very little effort - it's a bit basic but it sure worked. You may find it a little bit interesting.
Bye for now!

Hello The Bro
You did really great losing the weight like that. Even better recognising that you used to eat out of habit. Where did it originate that us humans needed to eat 3 meals a day? I have often wondered that. Definitely eating when only hungry is good advice. ( people with eating disorders may be the exception here)
And sometimes it takes a bit to workout whether it's true hunger ( the body needs nutrition foods to sustain itself, heal itself) or cravings. Cravings as in deep desire for junk food. (which is often emotional eating of some kind)
Anyways you did great. Totally agree we need to listen to our bodies. Much easier to do this when how bodies are free from crap sugar though. That is what I have found out anyway.
I have lost weight in a few different ways. Not eating breakfast.... I am rarely hungry then. Or have a large green smoothie, putting flaxseeds in it helps too. First meal of the day around midday, then around 6-7pm. I eat mostly plant foods. So lots of fibre fills me up.
As well as exercise, getting sunshine and fresh air helps me too. Helps me eat more healthy foods or something.
All that in turn helps my body be more healthy and naturally loose weight.
Where I come unstuck is the emotional or comfort eating. It will be junk. Not hungry at all. But craving the junk to meet some emotional need including boredom. If I eat this, then loosing weight is virtually impossible for me.
