I have been struggling eating and eating healthy foods over the last couple of weeks. I really do not want to go back further to how I use to eat, that is eating junk food, takeaways, copious amounts of chocolate, processed junk and comfort eating.
Finding it challenging to stay motivated to actually prepare what I know helps me feel better mentally, emotionally and physically. Plus I have been feeling overwhelmed with other stuff happening in my life, which somehow makes it more challenging. The old unhealthy comfort eating thing is coming back. And I think I am getting concerned and scared about that. I so much do not want to go back to how I use to be. I was so sick. Plus I now have some physical things not right in my body , so I need to be more careful and mindful of what I eat. ( Pre cancer cells , high blood pressure )
I was eating really well since Febuary of this year, it’s just the last couple of weeks I haven’t.
So I would like to use this thread to help me be accountable to Beyond Blue people. So like a diary where I can post and report what I eat. And also any healthy eating tips, motivating strategies to help eat better or anything related to healthy eating for our bodies including our mental health.

Hi Shell,
Thx 4 replying to my thread Shell, means a lot.
The seeds I add to some of my salads are hemp seeds, pepita seeds, flaxseeds. I also have chia seeds, white and black and bought some quinoa.
Getting all the good stuff in, plus I really enjoy eating this way now.

Hello healthy people!
So, I'm currently letting bone broth cook for 48 hrs so all the greatness is extracted out and I can have a healthy body!
This is my first time making it and I'm using;
2kgs beef bones
Carrot
Celery
Onion
Garlic
Bay leaves
Apple cider vinegar
Some other herb I can't think of ATM.
You put the bones in the oven for 30mins, then put everything in a slow cooker or pot on a low heat for 24-48hrs after boil and it's done. The longer the better to extract all the minerals. Suppost to be the best for health.
Ive also got my order of CBD oil which is expensive but I've wanted to try it for a long time for anxiety. I do feel good after putting the oil under my tongue but I also felt sick in my stomach at first...the sick feeling went away in time...I'll see how I go.

I have heard about bone broth MM and CBD oil. Did you get the CBD oil in Australia?
I have been mostly eating 2 meals a day. So intermittent fasting. Just eat between midday and 8pm. Today I ate for lunch scrambled tofu, with onion and spinach mixed in. With grilled tomato and 1/4 of an avocado. 2 mandarines, hot chocolate. Dinner I ate a plate of vegetables... Roast potato, sweet potato, green beans, cauliflower with mushroom gravy. And I did have some tim tams.
A lot of the recent days I have been blending up kale, oranges, frozen pineapple, frozen mango and coconut water. I really like that smoothie. And I figured its a great way to eat more cruciferous veg (the kale)
I also have been eating large salads with an assortment of vegetables. And I have been making zucchini into spiral noodles and adding those to the salads. Plus a homemade dressing.
One of my favourite dressings is:
Soaked raw cashews or peanut butter
Lime juice
Sea salt
water
Chili flakes
maple syrup
apple cider vinegar
And blend everything up.
And I have come across dairy free cheese slices. And eating that. Properly only eat very occasionally. But they are yummy.

I did not eat for wellness today. I just really noticed it just then.
For about month, I have had no processed foods, refined sugar, bread and other junk. About 4 hours ago, I bought 1 whole block of snack chocolate. And scoffed the lot in one go around that time.
Now I am having anger issues, I can feel it in me. I hate feeling this emotion. I have not been angry for quite some time.
Now wondering if sugar highs cause this in me.
I use to get angry a while back when I ate copious amounts of chocolate and other crap.
Now it seems 1 block is causing this.

Hello Dear Shelly and everyone....
Thats okay to eat a block of chocolate Shelly, I found the more I deny myself little treats...I end up giving up and have a jolly old feast on them....But for me that has to stop...I had a blood test about a month ago...My sugar was 8.9 My Dr said it’s way to high and if I can’t bring it under control then, I might be in need of insulin injections ...plus my Dr. doubled my cholesterol meds..
I have started buying fresh vegetables and fruit last week....not being much of a cook..I have been cooking them in my air fryer and having for dinner each night with a little some ...I still have sugar...(um 3 heaped teaspoons)..but only 3 cups a day now...less sugar has to be better for me...
I think I’m having withdrawals from the “junk” food I used to eat...and miss very much....I still do allow myself to have some chocolate during the week....
Please dear beautiful Shelly...don’t be hard on yourself..it’s really hard to stop eating chocolate, especially since it taste so yummy... My weakness is those snowballs..the chocolate coated marshmallows with coconut flakes all over them...
When I go off caffeine I get horrible migraines, same with sugar...maybe your anger is from withdrawing sugar out of your meals....Our bodies get used to things and if our body likes it...it will protest by giving us withdrawal symptoms..
Take good care of you dear Shelly...Hugs, and care with love dear friend..
Grandy..

Hi dear Grandy,
I know the snow balls you are talking about. Very fluffy and light on the inside.
That is great you have a air fryer and eating fruits and vegetables. I do like most fruits and most vegetables. Do you find the air fryer good?
Yeah that blood glucose does sound high. I believe with my whole heart it is possible to get that down for most people. The same with cholesterol. Without chemical meds. I know of such people in this course in nutrition and cooking that I did in 2018.
Thankyou yeah I do feel a bit disappointed in myself for eating the choc. But I will pick myself up again.
Withdrawals from sugar coffee and other junk can feel like crap, I totally agree with that. Been eating very nourishing foods only over this month, so I went through withdrawal about a month ago. It could be more withdrawel symptoms like you said, but I am thinking not. Think it was the major sugar high that caused the angry emotions.
Today I was emotionally struggling, was bored, bit unmotivated, lonely and feeling lost so the old habit of comfort eating came back. So chocolate it was.
I will be making some nourishing chocolate type snacks tomorrow incase. Then I will choose to eat those.
You may like chocolate bliss balls, they are not fluffy and soft in the middle like those snow balls. But you can roll them in coconut. The ones I make have oats in them, which are one good food to help lower cholesterol, I am pretty sure.

Hello Shelly,
I have changed my usual breakfast of crumpets loaded with butter, peanut butter and sometimes I used to put a cheese slice on them then microwave..I am a cheese lover...another thing I need to cut right down on...I now have either weet bix or oats...which I am starting to enjoy...without sugar....I do have 3 sugars in my cup of tea..I like sweet tea..so I’m not changing that, but have gone from around 6 cups a day done to 3 cups..
I am not very educated in the different health foods I hear you and others talking about...I use mostly very common foods, fruit and vegetables to cook with, then it’s really only basis cooking...The air fryer, is an elaborate name for a small fan oven....It is no different except that it’s smaller and easier to clean...Cooking for one person it’s ideal...I like my vertical grill for cooking as well, because no oil is used to cook any type of fish, meat, chicken etc....I am not big on eating meat...and don’t have much of it...Magic’s beef broth sounds really yummy and tummy warming...I will give that a go soon....
Shelly...we all slip up at times..that’s because we are only human..and their no such thing as a perfect human who does everything that’s right....so please once again beautiful friend...don’t be so hard on yourself....
My kindest thoughts with lots of care...
Grandy..

Thankyou for your encouragement about slipping up.
Are you happy that you have cut down on tea with the sugar in it? I wonder if you would like the taste of local raw honey in your tea rather then the sugar. Maybe.
My husband eats vitabrits... a bit like weetbix. They don't have any added sugar in them. He often tops that with greek yoghurt ( the one without cream and sugar ) tin peaches in natural juice and a bit of honey. I don't really eat stuff like that though.
I was actually looking for recipes to make crumpets. A more nourishing one. I may have to attapt a recipe, as most are cooked on a fry pan in oil.
Thanks for the info about the air fryer. I was looking at one, wondering if they make those crispy looking potato chips that they seem to have on the unopened boxes of the air fryers.
