*Trigger warning* Eating for Health and Wellness

I have been struggling eating and eating healthy foods over the last couple of weeks. I really do not want to go back further to how I use to eat, that is eating junk food, takeaways, copious amounts of chocolate, processed junk and comfort eating.

Finding it challenging to stay motivated to actually prepare what I know helps me feel better mentally, emotionally and physically. Plus I have been feeling overwhelmed with other stuff happening in my life, which somehow makes it more challenging. The old unhealthy comfort eating thing is coming back. And I think I am getting concerned and scared about that. I so much do not want to go back to how I use to be. I was so sick. Plus I now have some physical things not right in my body , so I need to be more careful and mindful of what I eat. ( Pre cancer cells , high blood pressure )

I was eating really well since Febuary of this year, it’s just the last couple of weeks I haven’t.

So I would like to use this thread to help me be accountable to Beyond Blue people. So like a diary where I can post and report what I eat. And also any healthy eating tips, motivating strategies to help eat better or anything related to healthy eating for our bodies including our mental health.

Hi CC

The egg diet.. I have never heard of that. I like how it includes porridge, fruit and vegetables as well.

I am guessing you are referring to refined sugars. And maybe foods in packets and boxes with nutrition labels on the packets. I do look at labels.

When I was younger I did eat boiled eggs in an egg cup. Then dipped in the strops of toast

Hello how you going Sleepy?

Yes that is pretty much what the chia /oaty thing tasted like. The sweet peaches and a creamy, earthy chia concoction.

Thinking you have made some similar before

xx

hey Shelll

i've not been sleeping too well at night but catching up by sleeping in this weekend. Bit tired, still.
Yup i'm a big fan of overnight oats! I call it bircher muesli but it's totally the sam thing I think... it's one of my fave meals. I'm really loving ur version with the peaches and how it kept u full and the plum as a snack!

snacks are really important to me

lately i've had rice crackers in nice/spicey flavours, hummus, and trail mix. i'v bought some grapes but again can't imagine i'll get to thm!

have been drinking nice anti oxidant juices (pomegrante, ruby grapefruit or grape). How are u doing Shelll? x

xx

I am still awake also. Almost 2am here. I would love to fall asleep.

Oh gosh! I did make a red raspberry tea, forgot. It is properly cold now.

I am yet to try pomegranate. Pretty sure we have a glass bottle of it in the pantry. A long life juice one.

Rice Crackers...... Good choice Sleepy . I use to eat plain rice crackers with hummus. The hummus that I make has nutritional yeast in it making it taste a little like cheese.

Hope you can get some sleep. I am going to attempt it now.

Nite

Breakfast ... I ate the overnight chia /oats which was topped with organic strawberries and some more soymilk. I also stired in the juice of 1/2 lemon and 1 teaspoon maple syrup the night before. It kept me not thinking about food until around 3pm

I went down hill from there. I bought hot chips from the takeaway. What triggered this was the smell of them waffling across at me at the beach.

I also ate some carob coconut rough (no refined sugar in it)

Iced chocolate that I normally make.

And a plum

I ate no vegetables at all today.

hey Shelll

good stuff with the oats and ur beautiful ice choc

i have a similar thing i used to make but a warm version

i also worry when i don't eat veg or protein

i had a sweet potatoe today again, same toppings but with hummus on top which tasted a bit funny

had some zucchini - tomatoe salad

had a cup of tea with milk and sugar

not much around the house to snack on.

Oh yes - had some smoked salmon which was great. Proud of that one as it's good for skin, hair, and mood 🙂

the carob coconut rough sounds really good

i remember being fascinated by carob when i was little and wandering if it tasted as good as chocolate

haven't ate much of it as an adult but you do see raw deserts with it from time to time

Hello Sleepy.

The sweet potato sounds awesome. I like roasted sweet potato. Have you come across the ones that are purple inside?

No I don't believe carob tastes like chocolate. That's just me... I have tasted a lot of chocolate too. Though if you use the fat from the cocoa bean itself when making carob chocolate, maybe it would then.

Breakfast ... Smoothie that was well a little different. I would not make it or drink it a again. It had coconut water, spinach, 1 carrot, frozen banana and frozen pineapple. And also almond butter, ground flaxseed, turmeric, ginger and cinnamon

Lunch... I made some more soup, pretty much the same as the recipe above.

Later on the day, I was not coping that well with sadness. And without giving it much thought and dealing with the sadness itself in a more helpful way. Well I bought 1 easter egg and 1 easter bunny. Comfort eating.

Also ate more grapes today

Craved a packet of chips tonight. I almost went down to the servo to get some. Talked myself into heating up some more soup. So I ate 2 cups full of that instead. The cravings fanished. I am so thankful.
