I have been struggling eating and eating healthy foods over the last couple of weeks. I really do not want to go back further to how I use to eat, that is eating junk food, takeaways, copious amounts of chocolate, processed junk and comfort eating.
Finding it challenging to stay motivated to actually prepare what I know helps me feel better mentally, emotionally and physically. Plus I have been feeling overwhelmed with other stuff happening in my life, which somehow makes it more challenging. The old unhealthy comfort eating thing is coming back. And I think I am getting concerned and scared about that. I so much do not want to go back to how I use to be. I was so sick. Plus I now have some physical things not right in my body , so I need to be more careful and mindful of what I eat. ( Pre cancer cells , high blood pressure )
I was eating really well since Febuary of this year, it’s just the last couple of weeks I haven’t.
So I would like to use this thread to help me be accountable to Beyond Blue people. So like a diary where I can post and report what I eat. And also any healthy eating tips, motivating strategies to help eat better or anything related to healthy eating for our bodies including our mental health.

Hi Shelley Anne,
Wow I think your managing to eat healthy meals consistently is great progress. It must be hard to not snack on chocolate etc when you have other people in the house eating those things.
I'm curious do you cook one meal for your family & something else for yourself or do you all eat the same thing. When you do manage to eat healthy meals is it because you have done a meal plan for each week & shop accordingly or do you buy what's available & just think up meals each day or a mix of both or something else.

Good Morning Paw Prints.
Sometimes I cook two separate meals and sometimes not. It just depends on what I make. If I make say cauliflower soup which is all made from plants. We all like it. So no need to cook something different. For stir fries, I just add say a meat source to their portions. We all eat the same veggies. I try and have some kind of lentil patties in the freezer. So if I make like beef steak for them. I will eat the pattie. We all eat the veggies. No one else eats tofu, though my hubby wanted to try some yesterday when I made it. And said he liked it. But mostly stuff like that I will make separately. I am not sure if that answers your question or not.
Regarding meal plans.
I have used those before. It was when I first switched over from the standard Australian diet to whole food plant based way. I did not know how to cook a lot of the stuff then. And did not have a lot of meals remembered in my head.
I will write again later in the day Paw Prints. I need to go now.

Paw Prints I do mostly eat healthy meals. It is the unhealthy snacking that is my problem.
I hope I answered your questions ok. And do you have meal plans ? And what sort of meals do you normally eat?

HI guys
I still eat 'unhealthy' foods. I am trying to look at them as everyday and sometimes foods. Yeah sounds a bit simplistic (maybe childlish as they do this in schools) but I find it is helping me not have fear or bad thoughts about foods. If I want a donut today, I'm gonna let myself have one. But if I want one every day then I won't. Also if I exercise more I can eat more (generally may appetite is high on active days) because I need to refuel/fuel my body to continue activities. Can't expect my body to run on empty, if we think of our bodies like a car then it is crazy people try avoid eating on long runs.
Oh dang now I want a donut. Haha. I don't have one either. Stupid simpsons puting it in my head.

Hi All,
MsPurple - I agree it's how we eat food is the problem, not so much what we eat.
Shelley Anne - Today I have had cereal, 2 slices fruitcake, approx 3 litres of milk. This sort of thing is now the norm not the exception. I only began to care about what I'm eating a few months ago after about 3 years of not being well enough to care. I've been making meal plans, but the fresh food has just ended up having to be binned. I've been hoping following other people would be enough to get me cooking again.

Pawprints I too hope you become inspired again to cook some lovely fresh food to bless your body.
Ms Purple I think when you said dang you meant D'oh!
Last night i made a yummy pizza (I make a large batch of pizza dough and freeze portions as well, it's so convenient). I make my dough with a mixture of wholemeal and white Spelt flour with a small amount of hemp flour mixed in.
On the pizza I put a homemade pesto (rocket, toasted pine nuts, olive oil, garlic, nutritional yeast), chopped onion, roasted pumpkin, chopped silverbeet, nutritional yeast, hemp seeds and vegan mozzarella. Very yum.
Shell I made those vietnamese rice paper rolls again on the weekend when we had guests and I made a satay dipping sauce this time. They could not believe the rolls were filled with tofu! They loved it.
Hope everyone is feeling well today.

I sort of like what you said about the car Ms Purple. You need to put the right oil and right petrol in it to make it go well. No point in putting crap oil in or diesel in a car that runs only on petrol. Properly will run into all sorts of problems. Same with food, we néed to feed our bodies with the right kinds of foods to help us have energy, nourish ourselves with all the nutrients the body needs. Guess you already know all that, from your studies on nutrition etc. Fascinating the human body and how the foods we choose to eat affect it.
Donouts do taste very yummy. For someone wanting to improve their health and or loose weight, and thats me. Well I would not go that way. One taste of those may trap me into a binge of eating them. Perhaps you are more disciplined then me.
Anyway I think it's great you go running.
