I have been struggling eating and eating healthy foods over the last couple of weeks. I really do not want to go back further to how I use to eat, that is eating junk food, takeaways, copious amounts of chocolate, processed junk and comfort eating.
Finding it challenging to stay motivated to actually prepare what I know helps me feel better mentally, emotionally and physically. Plus I have been feeling overwhelmed with other stuff happening in my life, which somehow makes it more challenging. The old unhealthy comfort eating thing is coming back. And I think I am getting concerned and scared about that. I so much do not want to go back to how I use to be. I was so sick. Plus I now have some physical things not right in my body , so I need to be more careful and mindful of what I eat. ( Pre cancer cells , high blood pressure )
I was eating really well since Febuary of this year, it’s just the last couple of weeks I haven’t.
So I would like to use this thread to help me be accountable to Beyond Blue people. So like a diary where I can post and report what I eat. And also any healthy eating tips, motivating strategies to help eat better or anything related to healthy eating for our bodies including our mental health.

Hey Paul, that food in the can you mentioned sounds Mexican. You do well to eat Brussel sprouts. Not sure if I am a picky eater or not. Maybe more of a mindful eater. (except when struggling with binging and emotional eating .Thoughts of eating what is beneficial for me somehow leaves me then)

Ah silken tofu, I have seen that next to the firm one in Woolies. I have yet to try that one yet.
Thanks for the bit of info about the cauliflower rice. I have eaten raw cauliflower before in a salad. Cauliflower creamy soup, garlicy cauliflower, roasted and BBQ cauliflower steaks. Simple steamed cauliflower with cashew cheese sauce. Mmm yummy love cauliflower. I almost have a desire the eat some now.

Made a smoothie of which I have been sipping through the morning .A very large smoothie:
( chilled hibiscus tea, grated raw beetroot, frozen strawberries, frozen grapes, frozen pineapple, baby spinach and 1/4 of a banana)
The smoothie came out a pretty dark pink colour. I poured this into a glass jar, poked in a red straw. And sipped away. BTW I collect straws. 🙂

Lunch today
Beans, carrot, onion, cauliflower, broccoli, green peas, ginger and garlic stir fried in veggie stock. Served with chickpea spaghetti, toasted almond flakes sesame oil and mixed leaf green salad.
So good and heaps yum
Dinner tonight with be cauliflower soup.
Snacks - 4 chocolates from the roses chocolate box (from Father in law)

Hi Shelley Anne,
I'm amazed at the number of things you have that I have never heard of or ways of cooking foods I have never thought of. Your cauliflower post is a great example, I've only ever had steamed cauliflower with white sauce. I've actually written some items on my list of things for my next trip to the shops that I wouldn't have thought to get before that I'm going to try.
I did appreciate you earlier reply with the info about caisen & no I don't think you come across as a know it all. I think it's great when people are open to learning new things & sharing the info they have learned. To answer your question, I don't want to give up dairy, just to stop comfort eating & go back to a more healthy eating regime.

HI Guys
Sorry haven't been on during Easter. I was dog sitting and the house didn't have internet. I can't stand doing the forums on my phone (will do one post on my phone but that's it)
Easter was an emotional time for me. I saw my psychologist today which was helpful to discuss all the feelings. I find this helpful
I am trying not to get tempted to go back to ED comfort. Some days the temptation is so high. I had a good break over worrying about what I was eating over easter as was with family. But back home and wanting to get back on track (more so I feel healthier and not get heart burn, didn't eat bad but just sometimes a big change can cause some issues with heart burn and regularity)
Very physically and emotionally tired. Didn't sleep well with the dog sitting. Won't be able to do those dogs again as I just don't think I can work off that lack of sleep and worries about dogs not being fully toilet trained.
Housemate had bday on weekend. Was great. Tempted to have cake, but I am going to have it socially. Enjoy it with others. All in moderation.
Now time for lunch. I honestly don't know what I feel like. Probably some left overs I have pre-frozzen

How you going Paw Prints? Did you say you will still eat dairy, and its only eating for comfort that you would like to stop?
As you know, I am the same when it comes to comfort foods. I have just got to find something else to meet that need for comfort. Something else to turn to.
I have been eating "my particular healthy foods for meals". Which I am pleased with. But snacking on chocolate biscuits and today maltessers.
I read somewhere,most likely in one of his books. I think it was by Dr Furhnam. Anyway he had a patient who was struggling with eating heaps of junk. This lady said she did not want to give up junk food. Dr Furhnam said to her, "well don't then, just make sure you eat loads and loads of vegetables in the day". I am pretty sure this female patient did what he suggested, and eventually she started to love the taste of vegetables. And all the nutrients and fibre she consumed sort of crowded out her desire and cravings for junk. Her body was being nourished.
I find hope in that story.
And yes I do eat foods quite different from the standard Australian diet. I never heard much about them either. It's incredibly satisfying to discover new foods.

I have been eating healthy meals over the last few days. So that is good. However snacking on junk still. Not good. I have not being feeling particularly sad or anything. So I know this is the sugar addiction that I am experiencing, rather then comfort eating. Once I get a taste for the refined sugars, then my body appears to want more and more.
Anyway I have hope and this latest binge will not leave me sad and discouraged like before. It is not my master. And I refuse to be trapped in this cycle any longer. I can choose to love myself in this way by only eating foods that will benefit me and not harm me.

I don't do much cooking in terms of cakes, but I cook my own meals. I cooked steak with roasted veg and onion and mushroom sauce.
Had a rough day today. Hoping tomorrow will be better
