We can do it BBers, we can do self-care.

Sleepy21 pointed out research that shows self-care REALLY helps!

Please share what you do for self-care so we can get inspiration, ideas and motivation to do it too.

Best wishes

1. today... had a sleep in (my) office at church (I had a headache since I woke up this morning)

2. (this one from last night ...) making sushi with new rice cooker. practicing!

Really nice to read everyone’s self-care activities.

Today:

- I went for a gentle walk by a river and rested on a couple of benches along the way. There were lots of cute little wrens hopping about. It was peaceful there.

- I rang and spoke with a kind relative.

- I sent a supportive email to a friend.

A gentle walk would've been lovely, ER.

My self-cares:

  1. Spent some time with my cats
  2. Treated myself to a nice vanilla latte
  3. Got to relax and watch a bit of TV

SB

Great to see you guys relaxing, and enjoying nature/animals. Here are mine:

- Went for a swim (for the first time in ages). The weather was perfect.

- Drew a picture as a gift for my sister (good motivator to do some art, it has been way too long).

- Did some painting my 40K models (another thing I haven't done in a very long time).

- Made plans with a friend I haven't seen in way too long.

I think it's fair to say the holiday has been good for me.

Kind thoughts to all,

Blue.

Hello Everyone,

SB, I’ve been spending time with friends’ cats in recent days and it has been nice to have that animal contact. One of them is particularly affectionate for a cat and likes to snuggle in for cuddles. It’s good for the soul isn’t it and for them too 🥰

Blue, that’s great going for a swim. I always feel like being in the water is transformative somehow. And it’s wonderful to do those creative activities. I had to look up 40k models to see what they were and they look impressive!

My self-cares today are:

  • Saying no to something that I knew was good for me to say no to.
  • Having a rest when I needed it.
  • Picking myself up when I felt unnecessarily ashamed of myself from a trigger this morning. I’m getting better at caring for my inner child this way.

Hello everybody,

Been a while since I've visited this topic. I think this is a good time of year to regroup & remember the basics, such as the self-care we all can benefit from.

Today, I made sure I had a healthy lunch, given how much I've indulged in the not-so-healthy foods of late, it seems like a very good idea to treat my body better again.

I have also been finding music on a website to listen to & enjoy singing & dancing to, here in my flat, even though it's got a bit warm today, which is also why ...

this afternoon, I had a cool shower to freshen up & cool down. Such a good feeling, being clean & fresh. Sometimes I kinda forget (especially if I'm feeling even a bit down), & I need to remind myself how good it feels, & just get in & do it instead of sitting around getting grumpily hot & bothered & feeling slimy, sticky & gooey & needing to remind myself I don't have to put up with these feelings.

Hugzies everyone,

Hello Everyone 🤗

MK, I know what you mean about the cool showers. I was in Perth recently where it was 40+ degrees and feeling quite overheated and uncomfortable. I took ages to get around to having a cool shower but when I did it made such a difference! It’s amazing how it helps just getting the body temperature down and feeling refreshed again.

For me today self-cares were:

  • Getting out for a walk even though I felt very depressed. The walk was probably a little long for me with fatigue but I did enjoy the scenery by the river very much including the late afternoon light reflecting off boats on the water and seeing people out enjoying themselves.
  • Eating very healthy foods at breakfast, lunch and dinner - a good range of vegetables, fruits and healthy proteins.
  • Enjoying the fresh air and sunshine when putting out and bringing in my washing.

Long walk

eating fruit

Did something I had procrastinated.

Nice self-cares Quirky.

For me today:

• Did some photo editing which I find therapeutic and is a good distraction when I’m feeling depressed.

• Had a late afternoon walk in bushland across the road where I got some fresh air and a bit of exercise.

• Watched a nice nature documentary.

Hello ER, Quirky & everyone

Today I went to the gym for some exercise, came home & changed my bed sheets & pillow slips & have done a load of washing & of-course, I will have to remake my bed, then it's time for a shower.

ER, last night I found there was a doco about Tasmanian Devils, which was so informative. Although I thought I would have enjoyed a more detailed audio description, what I did hear was fantastic. As it was on ABC, if you missed it, you ought to be able to find it on their website.

Hugzies,

mmMekitty
