We can do it BBers, we can do self-care.
Sleepy21 pointed out research that shows self-care REALLY helps!
Please share what you do for self-care so we can get inspiration, ideas and motivation to do it too.
Best wishes
EM

Yay, Blue. 'Onya SB. Great to hear, ER. Well done, GreenEggs. ...& everyone reading.
(I had forgotten to click the big 'Reply' button), so now these are yesterday's self-cares) ... early this morning I ordered my groceries, so I might use my time with my support worker for other shopping.
(Yesterday), I also went to see the audiologist for a check-up at a different location than previously, because the parking is better. Turns out, although I get to my appointments 10 minutes early, at this location, I wasn't waiting another half an hour like I have done at the other location.
Also, evidently, I need a hearing aid in my left ear now, so, (3rd(, was to accept this & allow the audiologist to make a mould of my ear & book me in for another appointment in a few weeks.
... great effor, Quirky ...
& so true, Dools. ...
& thank you, Blue, for reminding us of this thread.
Hugzies to all,
mmMekitty

Hello All,
Today has only just started for me so I will mention yesterday's self care happenings
1/ I planned a quiet morning and had a snooze in the early afternoon
2/ I did a little of my paint by numbers
3/ had a delightful walk in the afternoon
My main self care strategy today is to not allow my mind to take me down a negative narrative regarding my work place, no panic attacks for me today as I go to work later!

Great to hear about your self cares Dools, Quirky, MK and All.
For me today:
- Had extremely severe anxiety persisting so decided to get away from my home environment and went for a walk just outside of a nearby town. It didn’t take the anxiety away but made it slightly more bearable. It was hot which also made it harder, but making my body go through that I think actually helped, like one kind of physical stress took away some of another stress. The anxiety is intensely hormonal/biochemical, so trying to find ways of altering that.
- Took photos with my camera which I will enjoy looking at and editing when I upload them to my computer shortly.
- Slept for an hour on the couch after getting home. I’ve only been getting about 4 hours sleep a night, so every bit of sleep helps. This is the first sleep that has felt at least a bit restorative in a very long time. I woke up to the sounds of a choir of amazing Pacific Island singers who regularly rehearse nearby and really enjoy hearing them. It is uplifting, and again I think I haven’t felt uplifted in many weeks. So although I felt really awful today I think something has shifted a bit.

Hi all,
The self-care really got away from me again through a pretty rough period of medical drama with hubby. Things have stabilised for now and I'm catching my breath, trying to get a handle on self-care again. Love the stuff you guys had been doing before this thread went quiet again. Anyway, here's mine.
- Meditative journalling. I play a meditative game called Playne sometimes, which puts you in a little camp on an island with a fox you can interact with (the game has a story, and you can ask questions about meditation). One of the meditations is called "Thought Pages", where you just write whatever is on your mind, and then feed it to the bonfire. It's so far been the best journalling tool I've found anywhere. I don't like having a physical copy of the stuff I've purged, and I don't like doing it in a document - even if I rip up paper or delete a document, it doesn't feel satisfying or like it's really gone, somehow. A game that can't save the words, and where I can set them ablaze after? That's the stuff!
- Have started blocking in holidays and week-ends to take off from the horrendous amount of admin involved in hubby's health and trying to get disability services for myself. It's been really hard to make good boundaries, and I realised part of that was that there were empty spaces in the calendar, so things just got put there. If the day is blocked out as not free, we don't do that. Executive functioning hack!
- Took today to just sleep. I rarely get enough sleep, so have to plan the occasional day to recouperate and get proper rest.
Kind thoughts,
Blue.

Blue, that game sounds amazing. I agree with you to an extent, I do like reflecting on my journal sometimes to see how far I've come, or to motivate myself.
My self-cares for today:
- Cleaned my makeup brushes thoroughly
- Treated myself to some gingerbread
- Lay on the couch for as long as I felt that I needed to

Well done Blue and SB!
For me today:
- I watched some YouTube videos on photography. This really helps me be absorbed in something that is good for me as it takes me out of where I am struggling in myself which today was deep depression. I was looking at the images that can be created with particular lenses including one that I own and one I hope to own in the future. It is really good to engage the creative part of my brain.
- I called a helpline.
- I made a chicken and vegetable curry that was healthy and will also feed me for lunch and dinner tomorrow, making things a bit easier tomorrow with no need to cook.

- Played a board game with hubby.
- Ordered a nice new doona cover for our bed, to lift the mood of the room.
- Spoke with my sister.
Kind thoughts,
Blue.

It's a good thread for ideas, isn't it? 🙂
Mine for today:
- Embraced the holiday spirit - not doing any jobs or anything I don't feel up to.
- Played in the rain (it's hot, we weren't expecting any).
- Found a solution to a problem (gonna get unprinted newsprint/butcher paper instead of newspapers for lining our bird cage and under other places our baby likes to perch, as we absolutely loathe having advertising and awful journalism all over our house).
Kind thoughts,
Blue.

Embracing the holiday spirit is good, Blue. I've also recently started doing the same, allowing myself the space to relax if I have the opportunity to.
My self-cares today:
- Started a new reality TV show - I don't really watch a lot of TV but I've been meaning to watch Love is Blind for a while
- Got to do some more washing, taking advantage of the hot weather
- Made myself a refreshing sandwich
