We can do it BBers, we can do self-care.

Sleepy21 pointed out research that shows self-care REALLY helps!

Please share what you do for self-care so we can get inspiration, ideas and motivation to do it too.

Best wishes
EM

P.S. mmMeKitty I meant to say it is great you have found a new GP who sounds promising! It can make such a difference.

Photography is such a cool hobby, ER. I wish I knew how to do it properly haha.

Haven't had much of a chance to do self-care today as I've been at work but these helped afterwards:

  1. Unwinding on Tik Tok
  2. Having a shower
  3. Treated myself to a lovely brisket for lunch

Today my self care was:

1. Calling a relative I have found very challenging over the past 8 months. I decided to make contact after keeping my distance as a form of self-protection. The phone call turned out well. I managed to talk in a positive way with her and I think things have mended. I needed space and she needed time to get I have a boundary and I didn’t like her crossing it. I’m so glad this was the outcome rather than estrangement. I’d do the latter if absolutely necessary but I feel like I’ve managed to protect my boundary successfully while maintaining compassion and openness. I had to be forgiving too, for behaviours I didn’t like from her but I know stem from her own insecurities, past history etc.

2. I set off on a road trip as I needed a change and new perspective. My health is going better and I’m capitalising on it while I’m able. It felt great as soon as I was on less familiar roads and then roads I’ve never been on before. I’m now in a new town I’ve never been to and really enjoying being in a different place. It’s done me a world of good already.

3. Had a chat with a very colourful, friendly character at the local supermarket here. I love getting the feel of a place and the local characters.

ER, I am thrilled you are enjoying your time away, meeting people, feeling good & I''m guessing, getting some good photos & making good memories to treasure.

Very well done calling the relative & having the productive chat with her, evidently, with both of you able to be respectful & coming to understand each other better. I am impressed. I fully understand how difficult it is to have our boundaries respected.

I'm continuing to do my exercises, though today my back is hurting so I feel the need to take it easy for a bit. I'll do some stretching, in an effort to loosen it up, but maybe not using the weights for a bit.

Going to hydrotherapy tomorrow. I will need to mention my back if it is still aching & stiff when I bend & straighten it.... I think being in the water will make the exercises I'll do easier anyway.

I saw a dietician & am trying to follow the advic*e, which I'm not sure I like much, because it means I will have to switch up things, & have my salads in the evening, when it's cooler, & I'd rather something hot to eat.

She also said to avoid the carbohydrates in the evening* - but that's what helps me feel fuller ... so it's not easy for me to make these changes.

For now, I think I still want some pasta or potato or bread or rice with my evening meal - not going to suddenly stop having things 'cold turkey'. & it does feel like that ... you know, a habit I need to change.

*Note: just because that's what one dietician suggested for me does not mean it's the same for you.  Please seek your own dietary advice for your particular needs.

3 selfcare things

I went on a long walk when I felt tired

Tried to say  more than why did you..?
had a shower to refresh me.

Feeling very vulnerable today. I did the following self-cares:

  • Lay on the couch under a blanket and did a mix of resting and sleeping.
  • Did photo editing of images I took on my recent trip which I find calming and therapeutic.
  • Made a simple but tasty kale omelette for dinner.

Struggling with my thoughts, feelings and emotions yesterday. My self-care choices were:

- A walk, stopping to take photos, listening out for different birds and taking in nature and it's peace

- Read a book to stop wandering thoughts that weren't helpful

-phones one of the support services for a chat to help clear my mind
