We can do it BBers, we can do self-care.
Sleepy21 pointed out research that shows self-care REALLY helps!
Please share what you do for self-care so we can get inspiration, ideas and motivation to do it too.
Best wishes
EM

Hi All,
It’s lovely to read about how you are all taking care of yourselves.
Mine today:
1. Attended a community festival event nearby for a little while where I caught up with a friend and we had lunch. It was nice to see people enjoying the activities, the craft people made, the dance and musical performances and the stalls where I learned about some local groups and what they do.
2. Made a big pot of pork sausage curry with pumpkin, broccoli and pear and a mix of spices. I was happy with the result and I’ll get probably 4 meals out of it.
3. Listened to a podcast discussion to help give me ideas about how to deal with challenging behaviour from a relative. Working on maintaining my own health and well being in relation to this behaviour.

Hi again
I decided to have a 'day of rest' Thursday, but soon realised I had more to deal with during that da. Still, taking the day gave me the time to do what I needed to get done.
I'm learning my new talking microwave/convection/grill.
I have spoken to my two independent supports workers about boundaries. I realise the emotional involvement with them is getting to be too much for me.
I'm trialling support workers from a company, if only to have support if/when one of the independent workers is unable to work at any time, while the other is taking a long time off due to her recovery post-surgery being so long.
It's been difficult, but I think I have to try to stipulate & maintain strict boundaries with them if I am to keep them.
I'm not sure about these new workers ... so I am hoping my two independent workers can understand my needs for strict boundaries.
That's my top self-care for this week & into the future.

Dear MK, I hope things have gone ok with the support workers this week.
My self-cares today:
1. Rested and slept on the couch this afternoon.
2. Made a large one pot meal. Doing it in one pot meant fewer dishes to do and I’ve now got enough to feed me for a few meals ahead.
3. Listened to an interesting and helpful podcast.

1. Spent some time chatting to a local town resident and patting his little dog. I could feel how therapeutic it was for me patting her and she really liked it too. And it’s just nice getting to know and chat with local people.
2. Went to the GP this morning to organise referrals. I had a positive interaction with the doctor which was encouraging, helpful and constructive. Found a neighbour was leaving the doctor’s at the same time so gave her a lift home. I’m really enjoying the community feeling here and was glad to be able to help someone else out so she didn’t have to walk home in the cold wind and rain.
3. Watched a nature documentary I really enjoyed about North American wildlife.

Eagle Ray, it's good to hear that you had a positive interaction with the doctor, and that you got to pat a little dog! How sweet.
I've been really slack with these recently but mine for today:
- Hanging out with my friends
- Hopping onto Beyond Blue
- Spending time with my cats

HI & well done, everyone.
Croix, I hope you were able to laugh about losing to Sumo Cat.
Recently, not actually today:
I sorted out a problem, phoning, contacting people as soon as I could. & so it's sorted more quickly, easing anxiety.
I was able to tell the support worker last week, when I was upset, that I simply needed them to leave; saying "I need to be alone for a while". I needed to speak up for what I need, & did it.
I saw a different GP to get a couple 'scripts & the GP I saw seems more interested in what's going on for me, even the (not serious) cyst on my finger, speaking more gently & explaining things, answering questions, even saying he likes that I am wanting to know more about things. So, looks like I've got a new GP.

Well done everyone on your self-cares.
For me today:
- Went out and did photography even though I really didn't feel good. It helps.
- Solved an exposure issue with my camera when I got home as it was significantly underexposing. I'd started to worry there was a fault. I fiddled with menus and buttons, looked at the manual and finally watched some YouTube videos. The last option led me to solve the issue related to adjustments I'd inadvertently made in a particular mode. Very relieved my camera hasn't gone kaput and happy with myself I persevered until I solved the problem.
- Made a decision to go away somewhere for a week for a change of scene which I hope will break up current anxiety I've been stuck in. I don't know exactly when yet but I will work out what I can manage. I have a good idea of where I want to go which is somewhere new for me.
