Night Owls (for those awake late and can't sleep)

Dear All
The purpose of this thread is as a meeting point for those that can’t sleep and it is late (I.E. AFTER midnight.)

It can be a useful space for users to share their issues with insomnia as well as coping strategies. It can also be a general space for users to converse and support one another throughout a difficult night.

Please note – for those that are just bored or lonely we already have a place - the BB Café, which I recommend instead of here

Dear MC and Speepy and all~

I tend to use conventional books rather than screens to read at night, hopefully on my way to sleep. I'd sort of thought maybe screens tended to keep me awake.

Then I saw this on the ABC which might help explain it

Dear Slepy

Thanks for that , I'm going to set my computer to a night setting that lowers the blue component on the screen, I'm not sure how much difference that will make as I use books later on in the night, anyway, but you never know.

The only trouble with books is they take up too much space, I've got a LOT!

Dear (Valued Contributor) Sleepy21~

I'm sorry to hear you are not sleeping well. I've been unable ot get sound sleep for a very long time, so develop work-arounds and try different things. My meds plus relaxation exercises are a help, but not a real answer

So far using a screen with little blue component has had no effect, though how long one needs to trial such a thing is a question, so much depending upon one's state of mind from events during the day.

I'm persevering with it, and maybe over time I'll notice some effect.

As soon as a I have a magic fix I'll certainly let you know 🙂

Incidentally like Quirky whenever I see a post from you, Summer Rose and others I know in advance it will be sensible, caring and productive.

Hi Croix

I can understand feeling like sleep is a complex nut to crack...so many factors...

I'm trying different things and exploring so can relate to looking for a magic fix.

Thank you for your kind words. U are a very wise and kind comtributer

I might have sleep apnea and hopefully a sleep study will rule it out...among other factors I have to keep an eye on.

The sleep Dr said I'm healthy and young and we ll get to the bottom of the problem, and he can also give my psychiatrist tips to assist with my particular issues either sleep, very hylervigilant and unsafe at night. Nice to see a Dr being thorough and creative in approaching sleep problems. I felt he really understood that it's complex.

Being told to drink Milk before bed or listen to music...is well meaning but has never addressed my trauma issues which keep me up. Hoping for good outco,es with my new Dr!

I got diagnosed with sleepy apnea a few years ago.I did do the sleep study and stayed in the hospital while monitoring me.They didn't think I was at the stage needing the machine and told me to lose wait and to get a mouthguard made from an orthodontist.I am wondering if mine has got worst again as I have been so tired lately.

Hi mark, sometimes they make a fuss over age and weight...doesn't feel good...

The sleep study seems helpful. I've decided to do mine at home.

I use a spray for congestion and breathing which might help me til I get the test.

I had put on weight at the time as an antidepressant I was on was making me eat and have cravings for junk food.I have lost that weight now.It would be much more better doing it at home the sleep study.I did mine a couple of days before my daughter got married which was a bit of an awkward time for me.
