Hello Everybody and new posters especially:-)
I have had anxiety since 1983 and depression from 1997. There is always someone that says 'You have to Love Yourself' before recovery. When people are suffering from anxiety/depression this may be the last 'advice' they really need. This is only my experience when I am 'advised to love myself' to rebuild my life. I have heard the following from people that cant 'love themselves' which is fair enough as I am a person that cant either. Your thoughts will help me and others learn from your point of view. I can only be 'gentle' to myself to heal...not love.
- Why should I love myself if I dont in the first place?
- I am in a dark place, how can I love myself?
- I dont deserve to love myself
- I am depressed...How can I love myself?
- I have mega anxiety attacks..what is there to love about myself?
- I hate myself and what I stand for...why should I?
- I love my partner more...I will care about myself 'later'
When people have depression/anxiety/denial they dont need to be counseled with ' love yourself'. Thats a huge ask.
I dont need to climb Mt Everest by trying to love myself when I cant. It can be an unrealistic and even silly target to achieve having depression
I just prefer to be 'gentle' to myself. Same results and way less stress 🙂 Your thoughts/opinions are more than welcome
Thankyou so much
Paul

Hello everyone reading, JOIN IN IF YOU WANT TO SHARE anything!
Hey Grandy, lol you GO GIRL! hahaha. Love you, wonderful lady.
Hey quirky, WOW what an incredible revelation you've shared!!! I LOVE THAT!
WHEN you help others you feel you can love yourself MORE.
We CAN and DO feel more "full" when we share ourselves with others via helping them!
This is research backed too!
quirky you have so much DEPTH to your ponderings, your thoughts.
You are now becoming the OBSERVER of your own life in the NOW.
Not only about the past BUT NOW about the now and what you're learning about yourself / about HOW to feel GREAT about yourself!
Keep doing THIS and you are creating YOUR OWN FUTURE just the way YOU want it to be!
Surrounded by LOVE. Feeling HAPPY about your contributions to those around you. Feeling the GRATITUDE pouring OUT from you because you are pouring this IN to others.
I honestly believe you are at the point of massive CHANGE in your life.
It could be a tentative and scary time, when we're in the process of change.... hold tight.
It just GETS BETTER and better and better!
When we know that jumping into the abyss as I call it, others call it welcoming "the unknown".
This unknown is AMAZING. YOU are creating this.
Love you quirky, I'm so proud to know you.
Love EMxxxx

d This is a question many of us ask ourselves . Do we like ourselves. Some days it is hard to like ourselves but is is helpful to try. Others may put us down but we can see our positives.

Hello Paul,
Life is tough.
I have had bi-polar for 30 years.
My helpful thought is: "Life one day at a time".
Thinking back can cause depression.
Thinking ahead can cause anxiety.
You are only alive "Right Now" ... I can resonate with Eckhard Tolle.
This approach to life has given me a lot of balance and hope.
I really respect you - I have read many of your posts.
Cheers,
B

So here is my life story in brief. Up to age 12, I was content but . From ages 12-47, I dreamed about ending my life almost every night. From ages 47-52, I was content with life but not myself. In August 2021, a psychologist told me something that explained my whole life. I decided to make a change (massive one) and am now in a position where I like/love myself and my life. Numerous people have noticed the positive changes in me. I am still struggling with my past though, probably suffering an inner grief associated with the massive change I've made. I'm keeping a journal of my life since 2021 and rereading my entries has always picked me up. I'm also seeing a psychiatrist to help me improve.

Hi Everyone,
I am liking myself today because I accept stuff goes wrong and I am not in control anywhere near as much as I would like to be, and that is okay.
If I can accept that I am doing the best I can and I can't pull my socks up any higher so to speak, then by jove, I can like myself no matter what.
I'm also making an effort to sort out some of the jumble in my mind, I really like myself for making that effort.

Hi All,
I am trying really hard to like myself today as I had a horrid couple of days at work recently with dreadful bullying and rumours about me that are quite inflammatory and so untrue! My goodness, talk about a small flame turning into a raging bushfire!
Thankfully one of the staff confronted me with the rumour and I was able to explain what had actually happened and thankfully I assume they believed me!
Talk about slander! I need to rise above this, I know the truth of my actions. I can be proud of myself for following the rules and regulations!
