🌱 Diary- 5 Things You Noticed in Nature Today

Can you think of 5 things you noticed or observed in nature today, using all your senses?

I was wondering if this would be a beneficial exercise to help us focus on something else instead of painful emotions, troubled thoughts, over thinking, anxiety feelings and the darkness of that alone place.

As well as to see that there really is beauty all around us....

I chose to purposely notice things today. So here goes...

1. I heard the papery sound of the garlic as I peeled the outside of the knob.

2. When I went outside tonight to put rubbish in he bin, I looked up and saw some stars and the moon.

3. I smelt tomatoes roasting.

4. I tasted cherries from USA.

5. I felt the coolness of the soil, when I walked over it with bare feet.

Hi Shell. Did you notice that our mutual friend Wayne (aka Shaun The Sheep) is back?

My things for today are:

  1. I heard the cheers from the Hawthorn supporters as they kicked a final second goal to beat the swans tonight
  2. I saw the last of the leaves from the grape vine along our deck fall from the vine
  3. I smelt the tangy aroma of lemons as I cut and squeezed lemons from my tree for juice
  4. I also tasted some yummy plump cherries from the USA (they are out of season in Aust)
  5. I felt the slightly spongy feel of a partially flat tyre when I went and kicked the wheel in frustration

Really he is back! I shall have a look. Hi Wayne ( Shaun the Sheep) Here is a hug for you in case you pop in this thread at anytime. xx

Yes thats right, he opened a new thread under the Depression area.

Hi Shelley,

I have the feeling you would like spending time in my area...The door is left open for several reasons. It is often warmer outside when the sun is out. Whenever there's new dogs (most of the time), I need to hear what is going on and THEY feel closer and better monitored when the door is open. So they're better behaved. The fly catcher is mostly drab grey/brown with muddy yellow chest and a cute white band over the eyes. It's the size of an average wren but its personality and attitude are way out of proportion...

This morning looked like a postcard from Antarctica...

I sniffed out 1 of the dogs had taken a roll in something unmentionable.

The heavy frost was crunchy underfoot and crackled like rice pops, the air so cold it stung whatever bare part it could get at.

I noticed a few partly hidden creatures, peering at me from their shelter, wondering what on earth this stupid human being was doing outside before sunshine hit the frozen ground.

I watched the sunrise, my breath meeting cold air and icy steam slowly rising from the ground, icicles beginning to drip away. I watched in disgust as a German Shepherd rolled in the frost with an expression of sheer delight. I heard the crunch and scrape under her shifting bulk. I took off with an expletive when she shook icy particles all over me.

Hi Star, that sound lovely! Provided you are appropriately dressed against the cold. (-:

My 5 things for yesterday are:

  1. I tasted the tangy flavour of blueberries for my lunch
  2. I sniffed a beautiful pink flower on my walk yesterday with Holly, it smelled sickly sweet
  3. I saw a young magpie sitting on a tree branch watching Holly and I as we walked
  4. I heard what sounded like a very large dog barking at us from behind a high paling fence
  5. I felt the crunch under foot as I walked across my frosty back yard early yesterday morning

How come nobody has used this thread in 2 days? I had to go looking for it on page 2.

Anyway today is an absolutely stunner of a winter's morning. Sun shining, no wind, nice and warm. And I have just come in from a nice walk around my 3 acre house block with Holly. I have been trying to put my mindfulness lessons into practice! Here are some things I noticed this morning:

  1. I tasted the subtly sweet flavour of the crispy apple I took with me to eat on my walk around
  2. I smelled the scent of horse manure as I walked past my back-fence neighbour who keeps a horse
  3. I watched a couple of young calves frolicking in the morning sunshine past our bottom fenceline
  4. I heard the sound of a crow cawing in the distance and my budgies chirping merrily in their aviary
  5. I felt the welcome warmth of the sun on my face as I looked up into the clear blue sky

Hey Sherie, do you like hearing the noise that a crow makes? It is sort seems like the call is coming from far away in an open space or something. I like the sound. Hey Star, yes you are most likely right, I think I would like the area you live in. Except for any rodents living wherever, bats and leeches. It is awesome to watch the sun rise and slowly listen to the world waking up.

5 Things I noticed with my senses would be:

1. I tasted the beetroot juice in a smoothie. Sweet and a bit strong.

2. I saw a small horse eating grass in the paddock near the train station.

3. I heard a slight rustle/ crunching sound as I pulled some large weeds out from the garden bed.

4. I felt the wet grass when I walked over it.

5. I smelt..... I don't remember smelling anything

My 5 senses today noticed:

1. The colour of the ocean from on top of a mountain. I saw that.

2. A little baby that was crying in the Indian restaurant, I heard that.

3. The feeling of tears on my cheeks as they flowed from my eyes.

4. The aroma of Indian spices that was strong in the Indian restaurant, so I definitely smelt that.

5. The taste of carrots.
