Can you think of 5 things you noticed or observed in nature today, using all your senses?
I was wondering if this would be a beneficial exercise to help us focus on something else instead of painful emotions, troubled thoughts, over thinking, anxiety feelings and the darkness of that alone place.
As well as to see that there really is beauty all around us....

Today was a beautiful day, and here are some of the things I noticed around home today.
- I saw the last of the lemons on our lemon tree fall to the ground with a little thud as I watched.
- I felt the dead limp leaves of my poor Frangipani which was hit by a frost last week. The leaves are now all brown and wilted and dropping off the stems.
- I heard magpies carolling in the gum trees at the back of my house.
- I noticed the unmistakable smell of ants as I pushed over a dead tree stump in a treeline down the side of our yard.
- I tasted a droplet of water as it dripped off a tree as I walked underneath after a heavy dew.

Way to go Sherie!
With my five senses:
1. I heard a cow mooing extremely loudly, as if to say it wanted food or attention.
2. I saw some ducks flapping their wings in the water.
3. I tasted some more cherries
4. I felt the light sprinkling of rain on my face
5. I smelt, what I think may have been algae in the water of a very large reservoir. It didn't smell particular good.....

Things I noticed as I was busy at work and at home today were:
- I saw the clouds part to allow the sun to come through
- I heard the sound of a distant train
- I smelled the pungent aroma of a weed (tobacco plant I think its called) that I pulled from my garden bed
- I tasted the yummy flavour of a pork cutlet with honey and mustard sauce which I cooked for dinner
- I felt the warm glow of our wood fueled heater as night fell and I stacked more wood into it to keep warm

Some amazing eucalypts outside of the window where we had lunch.
The smell of mown grass.
The warmth of sunshine.
I saw smoke from a controlled burn.
I heard sounds made by the breeze.

I saw the look of hatred for me in his eyes as his drunken rage overtook him
I heard the sound of shattering glass as he smashed his glass down on the table
I could smell my own fear as though it were tangible
I tasted salty tears as they streamed down my face and into my mouth
I felt the warm comfort of my dog Holly as we both took refuge under my doona

Firstly my apologies for the post above, I realised after I'd posted that it was a bit 'dark' to be in the Staying Well section. It was not my intention when I came on here to write that, but unfortunately its a reflection of how I was feeling this morning.
I will try again now with something a little lighter for today.
1. I saw a mass of grey clouds building up in the distant horizon
2. I heard a flock of black cockatoos screeching as they flew overhead
3. I smelled the aroma of freshly baked bread as I walked past a bakery on my way to the bank for work
4. I tasted the tangy citrusy flavour of homemade marmalaide on my toast for breakfast
5. I felt the jab from a splinter of wood when bringing in wood for the fire this afternoon

I know it is a while since you posted that sad post on the 23rd of August Sherie. I am so sorry you experienced all that on that day. But I am glad you noticed some not so sad things in the afternoon, especially the aroma of freshly baked bread.....
Now my five things I noticed in nature with my senses today are:
1...The smell of raw garlic that was being used for tonight's dinner.
2... The taste of a dried organic apricot, very yummy yum yum
3...Seeing that the "bird of paradise plant" needed some desperate pruning and looking up and seeing the clouded night sky.
4... Hearing the cute baby talk of a toddler.
5...Feeling my eyes starting to tear.

Very challenging to notice 5 things in nature with your senses, when you are struggling emotionally. To be honest I just don't feel like I care about the 5 things at all. It sounds just dumb??? But I will force myself and see what happens. It is now night time, so I will go out on the driveway here at my place. I will be back......
I am back
1... I felt the coolness of the night air. I didn't bother to put anything warm on before hand.
2.... I saw the moon as I forced myself to look up. It looked hazy, maybe covered with a light thin cloud
3.... I heard the crickets or frogs, sometimes I can't tell which is which?? Heard the beat of drums in the music coming from nextdoor.
4... Tasted some juicy pineapple
5.. Picked a pink flower and smelt that.
Not sure if it made a difference, though I did stare at that hazy moon for a while.
