Can you think of 5 things you noticed or observed in nature today, using all your senses?
I was wondering if this would be a beneficial exercise to help us focus on something else instead of painful emotions, troubled thoughts, over thinking, anxiety feelings and the darkness of that alone place.
As well as to see that there really is beauty all around us....

Hi Shelley. I love this new thread of yours. And it forces me to practice my mindfulness exercises. So here we go for today:
- I saw my neighbours palomino horse running and bucking around in the paddock behind my place. He must have been feeling good, or perhaps just cold?
- I felt the cold strong wind biting into me as I walked from my car to work this morning.
- I smelt the strong aroma of my basil herb bush as I brushed against it when walking past this afternoon.
- I heard the eerie high-pitched wailing (or loud screaching) of the flock of yellow tailed black cockatoo's that flew in and perched on the gum trees in my back yard this afternoon. They are huge birds.
- I tasted a couple of pieces of KFC crispy strips (chicken) for a late lunch on my way home from work. Yummy. Does that count as something I noticed in nature? Chickens are seen in nature, although I guess fried chicken isnt. Its very hard though to find something you actually taste in nature. Mmm, gum leaves maybe, although I dont eat them that often.

Um a challenge for me today.
1. I tasted the sweet banana flavour along with a hint of almond butter in a smoothie.
2. I felt raindrops on my face
3. And saw raindrops dripping from above
4. I smelt a piece of rotting fruit
5. I heard the song of some bird

Hmmm, the taste one in nature is hard!
Anyway today -
I saw the sun shining in the sky
I felt the fragile warmth of the Sun's rays
I smelled something delicious emanating from inside the supermarket
I heard my husband's tears down the telephone line (or across cyber space - I don't know how phones work!! They just do!) I felt my heart break for his sorrow & realised these past 4 weeks have taken their toll on him.
I tasted a yummy reheated frozen meal. It must have grown out in nature at some stage??!!
The hardest part of this challenge is the nature bit. Especially for someone who lives inside & only goes out when I have to.

What a beautiful thread Shell
I felt a light sprinkling of rain touching my cheeks softly as I crossed the road.
I saw my daughter change the direction of her sparkly golden twinkle toes shoe to hit the shallow puddle right in the middle.
I saw a beautiful small bunch of dutch irises nestled amongst the regular flowers in the supermarket. Their velvety petals and rich yellow tongues were bright amongst their companions.
As I opened the hatch boot of my car rain drops ran down the side and over my hand in tiny rivulets. They were cold but warmed quickly with the heat of my hand.
I felt the slippery skin of a banana as I peeled it. The smell was strong and rich indicative of ripeness.
Sending you kind thoughts Lyn. I wish this time was easier for you and your husband. Carol xx

I try so hard to notice the beauty in nature. What a lovely idea Shell.
I saw the frost melting off the leaves on a tree. Slowly watching the water droplets fall to the ground.
I saw pink rose petals over my front garden, blown off a nearby rose bush in the wind
I heard the wind rustling though the leaves
I saw a beautiful rainbow (one of my favourite things in the whole world).
I saw the morning mist lift to reveal blue skies.

I heard the rush of flood waters which makes the causeway below the house impassable.
I observed muddy foam swirling on the surface. Those blobs of various sizes form forever shifting patterns as they bump into debris and each other. Some of them are dragged under or break apart against boulders.
I rescued a turtle knocked helpless on its back by the flow and felt the scrape of its claws against my hand, the coolness of the wet shell.
The rank smell of a partial roo carcass assailed my nostrils as it floated past.
I picked a young dandelion leaf and chewed it with puckered mouth. Awfully bitter, but good for you.

Today my 5 senses noticed the following:
- I heard the rain as it tumbled down onto our tin roof, I love that sound
- I saw a little bird sheltering from the rain on a grape vine runner along our deck, all fluffed up and cute
- I smelt that damp dog smell from Holly after she came in from the rain
- I felt the warmth of Holly's body as she snuggled up next to me, and the cold from her little wet nose
- I tasted the new flavour of dessert yogurt - the natural flavours of chocolate and coconut (-:

Today
I felt the cold smooth plaster wall when I got out of bed and missed the door.
I saw the traffic stop for 3 ducks to cross the road in the morning peak.
I heard the sound of gawd save the queen emanating from the senior citizens centre.
I tasted the local water which reminds me of moments when I have drank it over the last 20 years.
I smelt the glory of a vegemite jar opening at 3:00 pm.

This morning I saw droplets of overnight rain gathered on the end of twigs and branches. They shone like rhinestones in the pale morning light.
I smelled distant wood fire, brought on the wind from far away.
I heard the fluting calls of currawongs.
I felt the shock of ice cold water dropping on my face and hair from overhead trees.
I tasted the dog biscuit held between my teeth to teach a big brute of a dog a bit of self control (triple yuk !)
