Hi all,
It has been a while since I have posted, I was well for most of the year (surprisingly), but have hit rock bottom since March this year. I know I am not alone, but it frightens me how quickly I was cowering in a corner, (with no-one understanding and why would they?) frightened I was not going to make it through the day. I get so confused. I am good tonight, being able to turn my mind off for a while. I was wanting to ask about EDMR, has anyone tried that intervention, and has it worked? Or does it make you worse? I would be so grateful for any answer. The pain of cowering in a corner is excruciating. Is there anything that any person does to help them with this terrible condition?
I also wanted to express my support for people in Vic and NSW. You must be finding it very hard and I wish you well.

Hello Leisa68,
I'm sorry to hear you have hit rock bottom again. That must feel so terrifying knowing what it was like before things got better for a while.
I've not tried EDMR so I'll let others speak about that, and there may be existing threads already. But it sounds like you are suffering from some kind of trauma? What helped you through last time you were in a difficult mental space?

Dear Leia68~
Welcome back. I'm sorry things have gone down for you again, it really is a horrible time for you but I'm glad you are proactive enough to ask about alternatives that may assist.
There is a far amout of discussion about EMDR in the forum, with a lot of people asking about it, but also a fair few who have experienced it.
Can I suggest you go to this post by Community Champion romantic_thi3f:
https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/online-forums/permalink/qyryOXHzvGGEbv8AAOnT_A
and having read it work your way upwards in the same thread which happens to be called "Anyone Tried 'Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy? "
This will give you some feeling for the subject, then try Google, typing in the search string
EMDR beyondblue forum
and you will see there are many threads to glance over.
I hope this is of some help

Hi Leisa68,
Thank you for your post- and thank you Croix for the shout out! I'm really glad you thought it was helpful 🙂
I take it the cowering in the corner is because something had triggered you?
EMDR has absolutely helped me and I would recommend it, but it hasn't been easy either. That's not exactly a reassuring review is it ha, but I want to be honest about my experiences and also an open book incase you want to ask me anything.
I'll also remind you that everyone is different with their experience of EMDR- for me I've had a lot of trauma and a lot of sessions- but some people who have experienced single event traumas (like a car accident) might only need one. Likewise, people with a lot of trauma may find that they don't need many. Everyone has different experiences with EMDR in the same way that people have different experiences with ACT or schema therapy (other types of therapies). The key I think is finding a really good therapist - EMDR or not, so that it's someone who can help you out and help you to build that sense of safety.
I hope this helps. There's also a thread on grounding here which could be worth looking over too.

Hi everyone,
Thank you much for your replies. So helpful and hopeful. I am having a bad day today, just fearful of everything. The triggers I have are so multilayered a lot of things frighten me if I am vulnerable enough. I have two major surgeries coming up in which I will be incapacitated for around four months....I'm sure that is not helping.
Thank you RT for the information on EMDR, my therapist (who is lovely) is keen to try, she is a registered therapist. At this stage I'm am so unwell I will try it. My one hope is that I have not been unwellj for some time. I hope this doesn't last...
Thank you again

Hi Leisalou68,
It's really good to hear back from you and I'm so glad this has been helpful!
So glad to hear that you also have a lovely therapist who you are seeing right now. That's so important.
Please know that we are here to support you however we can, and please feel free to ask any questions. I also know what it's like to be dependent on others (and fairly helpless!) for medical issues so if there's anyway I can help to support you through your surgeries I will too.
Best of luck with your therapy,
rt

Hello Leisalou68,
Nice to hear back from you.
It's good to hear you've got your therapist for support and you are both looking to try something new to see how that goes. Hopefully you find it helpful.
I'm sorry to hear you have some surgeries coming up. It sounds like they could be quite tough, so please feel free to keep posting here. We're here to support you and make sure you don't feel alone through a tough and frightening period.
James
