It's like a feeling just bubbling up to the surface. It's panicky and disgusting and I dont' know what to do with it. There's no thoughts associated with it. It's a feeling. A really gross one. I called the Suicide Call Back service. I didn't find them helpful. What do you do? What helps you?

I know social media is full of crap, but sometimes there's helpful tidbits...

I saw this one thing on Tiktok, that if you lie flat, on a hard surface (floor), and only bring your head up, then back down and repeat that a few times, it is highly beneficial to migraines. You're the clinician so you'd know if that would actually work or not haha, but thought i'd suggest it.

One month to jump all the hoops or the show is over.

I think I need to stick a big note up somewhere to remind me it will all be ok even if it’s not ok.

Hello Katy,

Lass remember when you were tossing up whether to do your honours... remember how we talked about how you could think of it as being you had already made & decorated a cake... doing honours was just like putting a cherry on top... the cake was still nice with or without the cherry...

I believe you can do this... but it is ok if you can't... I know you will be doing the best you can... no one can ever be expected to do more than that...

Sending you a big supportive hug

Hi Katy

You still get your degree if you don't complete the Hons don't you? It's not the end of the world if you don't get Hons. I couldn't do Hons because I had to break to have major surgery plus I wanted to pull up a second qualification in another are (Bioethics, which is why I sometimes get impatient with comments about the virus!)

I did a graduate diploma which academically carried as much or more weight than an Honours as mine too two years and gave me a full degree in a second subject.

So there are always options!

Cheers and good luck

Hiya

Its not the honours that’s the problem. Prac is the problem. If I don’t pass prac I don’t get my degree - so a possible cherry and no cake! Wonder if that ever happens. Surely I couldn’t be the first. It seems ridiculous. Will be one expensive cherry!

And yes, I am doing my best. Thanks for the support, both of you xx

Katy, if you can't make the prac then you credit towards social science maybe?

You can only do your best which I'm sure you are doing!

If you truly find you can't manage the prac there'll be another avenue you can try.

Just chug on as best you can. It will all work out somehow.

We have your back here!

You peple are awesome. It's just good to see such positive feedback plus evolving ideas to help.

Katy, I supervise honours students. I know you will have your own supervisors, but I found having one supervisor (or mentor) who is outside of your academic circle, helps to see the bigger picture. Mine ended up becoming a life long friend because we would just chat about coffee, science, history and anything that wasn't work related. It turned out, he needed that outlet just as much as I did. Even yesterday, we were sending pictures of our food to each other haha... it's because we both think we're good cooks.

So I dont know the community guidelines for BeyondBLiue, but it sounds like Hanna would be a great external mentor or supervisory-type person to have a chat to. I happily offer my services as well, as I always feel much better if I can help out others. So it would be doing me a favour as well (totally selfish).

🙂

Hello Katy,

How are you lass?... I hope you are being kind to yourself... lots of self care & finding time to do fun things like roller skating (if the weather allows) or snuggling in bed with a cuppa reading a book or teaching Stormy something new.

Woofa sends you friendly snuffles..

Hugs from me

Thanks, everyone

I got a medical certificate and am taking a week off. I see my psychologist Tuesday, and will go back to prac if I can manage it, on Wednesday. Everything just got too overwhelming.

JackFrost, you’re right, this is an amazing community. And although BB isn’t set up for one-on-one communication, I appreciate that a mentor would be a good support to have in place. Thankyou.

Now, what to do, without that elephant on my shoulders? Maybe some housework and a peek at my thesis 🙂

Hugs, Katy
