Anyone had to spend days alone without anyone to talk to?

Hi all, apart from here and a brief visit to church last night (to make it feel Christmassy and to just be with people) I've had day after day for weeks now with nobody at all to talk to. This time of year especially it's really depressing. Old friends that live far away are gradually losing contact with me - I ring them but they don't ring me. I understand they're busy with their live elsewhere but still it's hard when you're lonely. I'm going to a Christmas Eve service at the local church tomorrow night to at least be with people for a little while... but otherwise all day I'm alone, just me and the dog. Sometimes I strike up a conversation on BB but then the other person disappears and that's the end of that...
How are people meant to cope with prolonged periods of social isolation? I read, I watch DVDs, normally I'd go for long walks with the dog but thick smoke from bushfires and intense hot weather have stopped that. I go to a café alone sometimes. Any ideas/help?

Hi Hanna,
Hope you & Sam are keeping as warm & healthy as possible.
I wonder if I'd still not notice the cold if it snowed, like I had experienced when I was very young, in Maryland, USA. Sure, though they rugged us up until we could barely move, we still had to 'defrost' & that was the only time I noticed - when my hands were warming. They had to almost drag us in when the temperature fell during the afternoon. Otherwise, I think we'd never had come back; we would be too tired to come in on our own,.
At 0°C, let alone 0°F, my toes & nose & fingers & ears are all going to be little ice blocks. & I don't suppose my joints would appreciate such cold either.
❤️❤️❤️for you, ❤️❤️❤️& for Sam, & Hello,❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️for Grandy & 2 furbabies there.

Hi mmMekitty,
You would have felt the cold less when you were younger! We all feel it more when we get older, same as hot weather... and it's actually a bit warmer when it snows... when it's damp with rain/fog and/or wind is when the cold really hits I think.
We are good here, I enjoy these crisp overcast days with a brisk breeze, my dog loves this weather too. We sat out eating ice creams yesterday!
I hope you are keeping well and that all is going OK for you there and that you are recovering well from all that surgery you went through, what an ordeal for you!
Thank you for coming by here. oxoxoxoxoxo

Hello Hanna,
I saw on mine how much you were enjoying having decluttered your place...I thought you might be interested in Blues Clues thread in the staying well section: "minimalism-and-creating-a-peaceful-space",

Thanks Paws! I'll never be a minimalist, but I am enjoying the clear, tidy organised spaces I've managed to get!
I've been chatting on the phone with another left leaning friend here, we have been talking about the unaffordable housing and rents.. this friend has only just bought a home in her mid fifties, until now she has rented, and people have looked down on her and been nasty - when did Australians get like this, I've noticed it too. She is enjoying the fact that she can finally have a dog now as a pet, because renting she never could.

Hello Dear Hanna, Paws, mmMeKitty and everyone..🤗
I think it’s wonderful, that your donating the things you have no use for now...It does make us feel better to donate instead of throwing it away....
A few people in my village quite often place things out on the council strip...and others that can use them pick up..,I have put a few things out and they disappeared through the night....
Its sad isn’t it how many shops are closing down...especially in these smallish tourist towns...
Where I work, is the only clothing shop in the the town..and it’s not fair that the prices are being raised constantly...I am pleased that you have another op shop that you can shop in...The new area manager has a girl in our shop that goes onto google and finds out how much things are selling for...when donations of older crockery and antique looking things come in...so they don’t miss out on extra $’s....It’s all just a business now...not much charity anymore...
I heard about the book fair...and so pleased that you picked up a few good books that you’ll enjoy...
I mowed my lawns today...it was cool enough for me to do it all in one, instead of having breaks...Hopefully the frost will start coming and do the mowing for me😁..
I am pleased that your friend can now get a dog..and that she is buying her own home...it really is never to late to do what we want to do....I am happy for her..
Hope everyone has a lovely night and enjoys snuggling up to your fur babies in a nice soft cuddly doona..
My care, love and hugs everyone...with pats for our companions..🦋💜🤗.
Grandy..

Hi Hanna & to Grandy, paws, & all furry, feathered & scaly friends.
I get the feeling that having a place of your own, your own four (or more) walls & some open area between neighbours, with a yard, or garden, is something pretty near instinctual within most of us.
I feel the longing, deep & I'd do it too, if I only could work out how.
It's really great your friend has done it - though the timing might not be the best, now interest rates are more likely to rise - hopefully slowly, by small increments, but even small increments make for sizable increases in home loan repayments.
My helper & her hubby bought a home on more land, further away from the city, & could only do that because of the sale of their first home, which they had spent a lot on having raised up & having a granny flat built in below. But they would not get a brand new home loan at this stage in their lives, not being 60+yrs old each.
One day, I hope to use their litle inground swimming pool.
Of-course, now it's just a bit cool, (not freezing) I would like a heated pool! I am nervous & self-conscious & concerned about how it would be going to a public pool. I'd like something near enogh to me to walk to myself, but it looks like there is none. I'd like to try aqua aerobics or some such.
Oh, well, that may just be an idea I have...
Yesterday turned out to be pretty nice, however, today is a little 'drizmal' looking out there. A tomato soup day, I think.
Warmly😺,
mmMekitty

Hi mmMekitty,
My friend will never pay the mortgage off, she is in her late fifites and has a large mortgage... but she is over renting! Plus she can finally have pets if she wants to...
It's hard going to a public swimming pool with less than optimal sight - they are very crowded and the one here is very slippery... it's something about the tiles... it's hard not to fall... the aqua aerobics would be good... maybe you can get to your carer's pool sometime.. What about a local hospital aqua therapy pool if there is one where you can get to it?
I hope you are doing OK there. oxoxoxoxoxo

Hello Dear Hanna, Paws and everyone...🤗..
Wow Hanna, hasn’t it been freezing today?...I can’t warm up..the shop has its door open usually but today I closed it with a big sign saying open....and had the air conditioners running all day.....
I read about your new old rocker/armchair on another thread..it sounds so comfy....something you could sit in with a warm blanket and keep warm....
How have you been feeling dear lady?...your thread here has been very quiet, I do hope your okay...
Is little Sam managing the cold?...Kay and Ebony are snuggled up right next to me...one on each side of me...and under the blankets I have for them when they are on the lounge....
Keep warm Dear Hanna....these fibrosis houses are like living inside a refrigerator....
Hugs sweet Hanna....Paws and all our pets...
Grandy..
