Anyone had to spend days alone without anyone to talk to?

Hi all, apart from here and a brief visit to church last night (to make it feel Christmassy and to just be with people) I've had day after day for weeks now with nobody at all to talk to. This time of year especially it's really depressing. Old friends that live far away are gradually losing contact with me - I ring them but they don't ring me. I understand they're busy with their live elsewhere but still it's hard when you're lonely. I'm going to a Christmas Eve service at the local church tomorrow night to at least be with people for a little while... but otherwise all day I'm alone, just me and the dog. Sometimes I strike up a conversation on BB but then the other person disappears and that's the end of that...
How are people meant to cope with prolonged periods of social isolation? I read, I watch DVDs, normally I'd go for long walks with the dog but thick smoke from bushfires and intense hot weather have stopped that. I go to a café alone sometimes. Any ideas/help?

Hi Paws, Grandy, everyone,
I hope you are all having a pleasant Easter - we are having glorious weather here, warm and sunny and the autumn colours in the trees are just magic. Grandy, I can imagine how lovey the trees are looking in town O - I'm glad you got to drive through and see them.
I don't know what it is about those artists that I like their paintings so much Paws, they're colourful and bright and I enjoy them - I love the indoor scenes Olley does and I like Cezanne's fruit paintings! I think it was Cezanne who said it took him a lifetime to learn to paint like a child... I wish I had some framed prints of more modern art.
I have been lighting two lovely tall carved tea light holders I have at night and I use rose scented tea lights - they're so pretty I'm going to buy some more and put them all around the old fireplace here... I have decorated the area with plants and it looks lovely.
Town has been full of tourists.. hopefully they will head home tomorrow - but they seem to have all been enjoying the lovely sunny days and the parks and fountains are looking very lovely in this weather. I hope you are getting these nice days where you are Paws. I think the library would be a good thing to join - here you can order online the books you want and the library has them ready for you when you come to the library - although I prefer browsing, sometimes this is handy as you don't have to linger if you don't want to.
Sending Easter hugs to everyone oxoxoxoxo

Hello Dear Hanna...
Popping In to ask RUOK?....its been a while since you posted here and wanted to check in on you...
I think the tea light candles would look amazing around your old fireplace...I love candles and most days and nights they are alight....giving my home a soft warm light with a delicate scent....Do you like watching the flames dance around?...
I think I went away at the right time...For the first time in a few years, the fishing completion was held over the long weekend and I was told that thousands of tourists were in the town I work in....also my home being on a tourist drive, their were many strange cars driving around my street....I missed it all....maybe Easter will be an annual visit to my son’s place....
I do hope Sam is doing okay...and his arthritis isn’t playing up to much for him.....it’s getting cold of a night and harder to keep our pets warm...same with us...I needed to get out my winter quilt...I think my fur girls are enjoying the softness and warmth from it....
I really do hope that you are both okay...
Sending you and Sam some warm fluffy hugs..
Grandy..

Hi Grandy and everyone,
Thank you for coming by here Grandy! I guess I have been on Paw's thread... and I am here off and on on BB these days...
I'm sorry you had a migraine, I've never had one but I know they are terrible. I'm glad you had such a good visit, and your ex-husband sounds horrible, how great you did all that so your son had a home of his own!
Both Sam and I are very cold tonight, I think it's about 5 degrees and the lounge is the only room with heating but it goes straight out the walls and ceiling - he has two coats on and we are both cold.. these old fibros are dreadful... and the Easter show is on here and they let of fireworks and that is scary for little Sam...
I hope tomorrow is sunny... we were meant to go to hear a friend's son play in a band today, but the band got covid in it and it was cancelled...yesterday little Sam fell asleep in the sun in the park, the house was so cold, it's been dismal and rainy, and the first sunshine he fell asleep on the grass...
I am too cold to light the tea candles tonight but they do look pretty - I have a collection like a crazy tea set, all different ones from the op shops - I like the different colours and shapes - and I get different coloured/scented candles from the Reject Shop..
I hope you and your furs stay warm tonight... sending big hugs from us here oxoxoxoxo

Good morning, Grandy, Hanna & furbabies,
I hope it is a sunny morning, & you are able to take your breakfast out in the sun.
I get a little sun in my north-facing front window, but this morning it is gone too quick, as the clouds are across the sky already. Not thick, or looking like rain, jut no sunny sky, & not much warming either. I can't complain. Where I am is not so cold as you both have mentioned.
It's only when the winter really sets in, & my toes feel cold unless I wear these fluffy slipper boots, with a thick foam pad underfoot, & then they sweat. & by then I'm also wearing my fingerless gloves almost constantly, or my fingers feel like icicles on my hands. & then I will also want to keep my ears warm, to sleep. My nose, too, but I haven't solved that little problem...
I think that must be one bonus for everyone who can wear a face mask - keeping the little nose warmer in winter!
Anyway, wishing everyone a wonderful day.😺 (Oh, but now it feels & smells like it might rain any moment here.😾)

Hello Lovely Hanna, Paws, mmMeKitty and all 🤗...
Thats okay Hanna...was concerned because you haven’t posted in here for a while.....I hope I didn’t pressure you to post....
It was soooo cold last night...Cold enough for me to have my first frost . 🥶....I definitely felt it last night....Kay & Ebony must have been cold as well...they kept laying against my back...and made the doona unconditionally tight and I couldn’t turn around with enough doona to cover my back.....hmmm maybe I will need a bigger doona so it overhangs like a bedspread...then we all will have enough....
I seem to get a few migraines in the colder months...not sure why..the one I had a few days ago was a biggy...bigger then usual....but it’s past now and I decided to have my breakfast out front watching the sunrise...it was beautiful...
My home is an old fibre home....gaps everywhere around the doors...the bottom I could put a snake but the top and sides.....I’m unsure on how to seal them....
I wish my fur girls would wear a coat....I’ve tried many times...they just don’t want them....then again I do not shave them....only trim them occasionally...they are both very fluffy and high maintenance, keeping their fur from tangling....
I am really happy to know that I have a candle friend....We get candles in at the shop sometimes...the used ones we are not allowed to sell to the customers, so when I have a few spare dollars...I’ll buy them 😂...
I do hope that the fireworks weren’t to scared for Sam....my girls are scared of them...and thunder...They hide behind the lounge or under my bed.....I wish somehow we could let them know that they are safe.....
Today, really is a beautiful day...I hope so much that you managed to find some time to sit in the warmth of the sun....you too Paws and mmMeKitty...it really does do our soul good...
My care, love and hugs dear friends...as well to all our fur children..💚🦋🤗.
Grandy..,

Hi Grandy and mmMekitty, Paws, everyone
It's lovely to see you guys here - sorry I have been out most of the day and am too tired to write much tonight... last night was freezing.. little Sam is sporting a brand new knitted jumper (navy blue) from the pet store today as I had to buy him something warmer than he was wearing... he looks very smart now and I hope he is warmer...
Grandy you can buy strips of stuff that are sticky (narrow strips) that you put around your doorway to seal the gaps - I don't know the name of it, but I'm sure if you asked at a hardware store they would find it for you - I've put it around doorways myself.. I don't know if you can use it on windows, you could ask at the store..
A lovely sunny day here today... mmMekitty you are in Queensland I think, I didn't think it got that cold there! It was about 3 degrees here this morning...
Paws, if you come by I hope you are managing OK dear lady, you do not sound good on your thread.. sending hugs from us here.
Excuse me being brief tonight dear people, hugs all round. xoxoxo

Hi Grandy and everyone,
Another lovely day today but it's going to get cold and wet again after tomorrow apparently... rats! Sam is used to wearing a coat and the new jumper I got him is fantastic, a real thick knit, thank goodness I have it before the weather turns nasty again..
Had my flu shot today.... are you working in the store this week Grandy? How is your neighbour these days, I haven't heard much about her so I hope this is a good sign!! We haven't got to O town this Autumn but so much of it was wet... and petrol is expensive!
I think they overprice things sometimes in the op shop here - I donated a nice bag I no longer want, it is lovely but I only paid three dollars for it second hand - and they have it for sale at twenty dollars!!! Nobody has bought it for a couple of weeks now... it's too costly.
Do your furs enjoy being brushed Grandy? Sam gets all sooky when I give him a lovely long brush in the evenings. I am thinking of getting a kitten - the vet here takes in litters that are found in need of care - they had a sweet ginger one today aged 12 weeeks - but I would have to introduce it to Sam carefully.. I think he would like a companion but we once had a dog and got a cat and at first the dog hated it, later they ended up best friends sleeping together... I don't now if a neutered boy or girl kitten is best - anyway I think the house is too cold at the moment, but I am keeping it in mind to get a cat... I always had a cat growing up.
I hope everyone is keeping warm and happy. big hugs. oxoxoxo

Hi mmMekitty,
You must feel the cold, here it is down to zero degrees at night, so your toes would definitely be chilly!!!! I think it's hard to keep warm when we can't move around very much easily....
I hope you are recovering steadily from your surgery, that was a huge thing to go through. I have a friend in the city in a public hospital at the moment and she is full of complaints because she is used to private hospitals and doesn't understand the public system is struggling financially and understaffed..
Grandy, I hope your day at the store went OK for you.. I'm not buying any more tea light candle holders, I have a lovey display now!
I am vegging out tonight as it's too cold and wet to do anything... best to rug up with the heating on and a hot cuppa and Utube...
Hugs to everyone oxoxoxoxoxo
