Anyone had to spend days alone without anyone to talk to?

Hi all, apart from here and a brief visit to church last night (to make it feel Christmassy and to just be with people) I've had day after day for weeks now with nobody at all to talk to. This time of year especially it's really depressing. Old friends that live far away are gradually losing contact with me - I ring them but they don't ring me. I understand they're busy with their live elsewhere but still it's hard when you're lonely. I'm going to a Christmas Eve service at the local church tomorrow night to at least be with people for a little while... but otherwise all day I'm alone, just me and the dog. Sometimes I strike up a conversation on BB but then the other person disappears and that's the end of that...
How are people meant to cope with prolonged periods of social isolation? I read, I watch DVDs, normally I'd go for long walks with the dog but thick smoke from bushfires and intense hot weather have stopped that. I go to a café alone sometimes. Any ideas/help?

Hi Paws and everyone
I'm just on here now, briefly, thanks for posting! I don't get to the dentist until later next week, thank you for asking. I've been unwell today so I'm taking things quietly... just a bit off. It's been muggy and overcast and not particularly pleasant but no rain...
Bought Sam a new bed but of course he won't lie on it - nice warm comfy one. He will sleep on it when it gets cold!
Did you have the meetup with your relatives today or it it tomorrow Paws? I hope you enjoy it.
I haven't bothered about the bees as they're quiet now - someone told me they must be native bees - I don't think so, but anyway, I'm leaving them for the time being, I've got so much else going on - but Sam is reluctant to go out the back garden now!
Have been chatting to an old pal back in coastal town and another friend in another town on the coast whose birthday it is tomorrow - nice to catch up with them... We are all getting older!
No news really, the situation overseas is dreadful... I really need to do some housework tomorrow - but have a couple of superb books I am reading.. so I'd rather do that!
How is Woofa's back pain, is the new medication helping it, poor guy!
Big hugs, sorry for a boring post but not much happening here today! oxoxoxooxox

Just popping in Hanna
I see you’ve been unwell so I hope you’re feeling better. It’s definitely no good news on the tv at the moment - covid has taken a back seat to flooding and war. Good gosh.
Love that you’re prioritising books over house chores - if it’s one thing we’re being shown at the moment, it’s that life’s short.
take care, Katy

Hi Katy and everyone,
Sam is in hospital at the vets with a nasty flare of pancreatitis, they're putting him on a drip as he hasn't eaten or had a drink since yesterday afternoon. Poor little guy very sick, shaking, hunched over. I'm waiting to here from the vet. Don't know how I will pay for it yet, but will somehow!

Oh no, Hanna! I’m so sorry to read this. Poor little Sam. I hope he has perked up with the treatment. Sending him a gentle kiss, and a big hug for you, you will be worried I’m sure.
Im getting that sometimes people on the forums don’t appreciate suggestions/ideas (which is fine), but vetpay? Salvos? A NILS loan? Emergency payment from Centrelink?
Please keep us updated on how Sam is. Thinking of you x

Hi paws hi katy
A centrelink loan that was going to go towards new glasses for me. I'm still waiting to hear anything I guess he's on a drip being monitored.. This was a bad attack.
I can't seem to focus on anything, it's too quiet without him. I have a hairdresser appt at 5pm and I wish I didn't... Maybe it's good to do something but I don't feel like chatting to the hairdresser..
These attacks really knock him around and I haven't made any good friends here yet.
Horrid day! Thanks for being here!

Glad to hear you can manage payment. I always find it adds extra stress trying to work out how to pay for treatment.
Hope you get an update soon x
Stormy and I are just out of bed. She’s still not herself. She was crying yesterday. Wouldn’t it be good if they could talk?
Take care. Do whatever feels best x
