Anyone had to spend days alone without anyone to talk to?

Hi all, apart from here and a brief visit to church last night (to make it feel Christmassy and to just be with people) I've had day after day for weeks now with nobody at all to talk to. This time of year especially it's really depressing. Old friends that live far away are gradually losing contact with me - I ring them but they don't ring me. I understand they're busy with their live elsewhere but still it's hard when you're lonely. I'm going to a Christmas Eve service at the local church tomorrow night to at least be with people for a little while... but otherwise all day I'm alone, just me and the dog. Sometimes I strike up a conversation on BB but then the other person disappears and that's the end of that...

How are people meant to cope with prolonged periods of social isolation? I read, I watch DVDs, normally I'd go for long walks with the dog but thick smoke from bushfires and intense hot weather have stopped that. I go to a café alone sometimes. Any ideas/help?

Hi Paws and everyone

We'll another year about to start, this one with Omicron. Oh joy! We are surrounded by very loud parties here, I'll have to put headphones on and play music!

I am finding Sapiens fascinating but I did anthropology at Uni so I guess it's a book that suits me.

We had interesting chats in the dog park yesterday and Sam seems to be doing well transferring to the new diet.

We had a nice day today. The weather was nice as although very warm there was a lovely breeze.

I hope you have a peaceful evening Paws, it's going to be noisy here!!!

Hugs! 🤗😁🐕🐾🎉🎈🎊🎇💖

I'm also reading Wayne Macauley's book The Cook which is a satire on haute cuisine and so far it's very witty! He is an Australian writer.

Have you been reading anything good Paws?

Loud fireworks here, scary for the poor doggies but lovely to watch!

I hope 2022 will be a good year for everyone! Thanks for the friendship and support Paws, Katy, Grandy, Dools, Deebi and everyone on BB! You're all so great!

😊👍🐕😃🎈🎉🎊🥨🏆🎶🍻🥂🍾😷

Hello Hanna, Paws, Katy, and everyone...

Popping in to wish you a peaceful and Happy New Year...

It was very quiet in my town,,,not hearing fireworks or seeing any...My girls were peacefully sleeping..Oh Kya was in a deep sleep...poor girl snores so loudly...or should I say poor Ebony and me...😂she kept waking us up....

I am pleased you enjoy reading...it’s something that I can’t do anymore....my concentration is not good, even with audio books my mind wanders from the story.....

Not at all enjoying these hot days...Love the sunshine..but not the heat...😁..

Happy New Yesrs from myself and my little fur princesses...I washed them yesterday, and have tied a ribbon on their hair...kind of like Pebbles from The Flintsones.... 🤗🤗🐕🤗🤗🎊...

Hi Grandy

That's a lovely picture on your avatar! Thank you for the New Year wishes and I hope you have a good year too.

I am close to where they have the fireworks here so I could watch them from the porch but Sam was very frightened and I had to look after him.

It's very warm today, we are off to the dog park and will sit in the shade.

Reading comes back with practice if you can try to do some with no distractions around it helps!

Hugs! 🐕😷🥂🍾🎉🎈🎊💖😃🎇

Hi Grandy

Thank you for your good wishes, it's been very hot for days now.

There's hardly anything in the supermarkets here, the shelves have been swept almost clean.. No toilet paper or long life milk or tinned fruit... I know supplies are affected too, but it's a pain... Here we go again! I'm glad I've bought a fair bit ahead.

I hope you are being careful getting up and you're not still feeling wobbly on your feet.

I was dying for an ice cream this evening but the ice cream shop was packed with a queue out the door, so it wasn't worth the risk of getting the virus from standing in the crowd...

Went home and had the fruit salad I made instead!!!

Big hug, and try to stay well! 😊🌠🌟🌜🐕🐌🐸🙉😼🐡🦗🍄🥪🥗🎢🧩

Hello Hanna, wave to all,

Do you have any idea what has set them off panic buying this time?... the news hasn't mentioned anything happening out your way that would spook people that I noticed.

Your hot muggy weather has hit us here today after a few lovely cool days... we had thunderstorms all afternoon & they are staring again now... but no rain... though apparently there was heavy rain & large hail in the big town where I go.

I'm sorry to hear you couldn't get your icecream today... are you being over run by holiday makers?... I hope you managed to spend some time by the river with Sam...

Hugs

Hi all just a note on why shelves are bare and why people might be panic buying.I heard on the news that their is such a shortage of staff with staff getting covid and people have to isolate in the supply centres to get the supply's to the supermarket so that causes the panic buying. Its the same here where I am the shelves are empty and toilet paper is always the first thing to sell out.So I always use how much toilet paper is on the shelf as a gauge to what is happening in people's buying habits and could see this coming.

Hi Paul and hi Matchy,

I've been buying ahead because I'm in regional NSW and as you would know from the media, thanks to our new premier Parott Head (☹️) we had all precautions lifted heading into Xmas (don't get me started about how #####!!!! stupid THAT was!!!!!) & people stopped wearing masks and distancing 😯 and now we have virus everywhere. 😕🤧😷

And yes there's panic buying because people are worried about getting sick and/or having to isolate (both of which are a legitimate worry at the moment) and staff and apparently the delivery truck drivers are getting sick. There was news about this in the Sydney Morning Herald and The Guardian online.

I've cooked and frozen meals ahead and have enough to get through about a week if I get sick without having to ask for help. I live alone so I need to take care of myself and my dog. 🐕I have extra dry food for him, his food has been unavailable for months due to staff in shipping jobs overseas being off sick - a guy who works in transport told me the containers are all stuck in the depots or on the wharves! 🚚🚢

Yesterday I managed to get a packet of panadol at a chemist as it's nearly impossible to get. Also things like throat lozenges, thermometers, are sold out.

People are panicking which is unhelpful, a girl at the chemist told me the phone calls for RAT tests are non-stop but the government is taking them all back off them so they have none. The govt is panicked (duh!) I also heard from another pharmacist the govt is recalling all RATS from them.

I also have enough medication to get me through about 10 days.

People amaze me, they're still not wearing masks, they're sitting in crowded indoor cafes especially older people, they're crowding into the local ice cream shop which had heaps of cases previously - I guess they're just fed up, but it's not helpful. I wish they would think of the poor hospital staff & here in the country our small hospitals can't cope.

So it's fun times again in NSW on top of a heat wave that goes on and on for weeks (but hey, there's no climate crisis, we all love coal!) and I'm in an uninsulated fibro getting cooked alive with my poor little dog! But otherwise everything is wonderful... 😃

We will be OK I like a quiet life, but these are certainly interesting times!

Meanwhile our PM is hoping a tennis player & tough talk about borders will distract us all from the mess. Nope!

So what's it like where you guys are??? Nice to see you here!

Cheers! 👍😊🤧🤒🐶🛒
