Hey Everybody! Christmas is the time of year to enjoy & share with family & friends. Some people will spend this time alone & isolated too!
This is a safe place where people can post and say hello, chat or send wishes to others and have a 'Virtual Christmas/New Years'!
Whether you have plans for Christmas/New Years or having a quiet one you can kick back and just enjoy company of others. Its been a long year. Even if you have never posted on Beyond Blue before you are very welcome to come in and sit around our 'Virtual Christmas Tree' and chat 🙂
You asked for this Paul here it is for all.
Santa (AKA Kanga Peter) Ho Ho! 🙂

Ulysses, sure would be.

I think its an ellusion to believe we can fix life and make those bad memories go away.

But, if we dwell on them to much it will ruin all xmas's for the test of our lives.

If we are alone for any length of time, with these open wounds still fresh or permanently scarred we must try to make the best of a situation. I'm not suggesting fake positivity. I'm suggesting to think that xmas, like birthdays and other spevial day, is what you make it.

On the funny side there is a skit of Mr Bean in a restaurant. He grabs a birthfay card from a bag, writes on it then seals it and places it on the table. Then, looking surprised he sees the card and opens it to read his own birthday card. He has his own party.

If I was alone I'd make my own turkey dinner with cranberry sauce, baked vegies and pav. I would watch the carols the night before.

I wouldnt spoil it with thoughts about the past. That would allow memories to win.

Oh, and too right, I'd have a xmas tree. Ya gotta have a tree.

Hey GG,

I just loved reading your post. Especially the 3 words you associate with Christmas. It reminds me what Christmas is really about.

And for my new years resolution? Well I have decided that 2018 is going to be my year. I'm going to shine!

Hi everyone

Christmas Eve is always spent watching the Carols from Melbourne. My idea of bliss would be Christmas Eve at the Carols & Boxing Day at the MCG for the cricket. I hope I get there one day.

This year we are going to my daughters place for lunch on Christmas Eve & the grandkids are cooking a bbq. We’ve tried so hard to convince them to have the bbq in a park.

They have 5 cats & 2 dogs that live inside & they “go” wherever they like. Groan. The stench hits you even before you get in the front door. Maybe my husband or I could be sick that day. Hmmm.

Cheers everyone. I’m so glad this thread exists. It will be our safety net. Lyn.

I remember when my kids were young we always had Christmas dinner (midday) with my brother's family taking turns hosting it. The cousins loved getting together. We had a policy that Christmas was for enjoying time as a family so that came first. This meant we never worried about being late. Obviously neither side abused this by being ridiculously late but we never had to rush opening presents etc to make sure we arrived on time.

Maybe we all should endeavour to enjoy Christmas in our own individual ways & make the rules & schedules suit us rather than attempt to have everything 'perfect'.

As our families became larger the shared meal became too crowded & stressful with too much time dealing out food & not enough time enjoying each others company so now we visit in the afternoon after eating so we can enjoy each others company. Traditions are great when they work for you but don't be afraid to adapt to suit your changing circumstances.

Hi Everyone!

I wish you all the best this Christmas and that the new year brings so many beautiful things to everyone.

Whatever you all do, be safe and think about yourself and those around you!

Thank you for creating this thread, it’s a really nice gesture!

unfortunately I’m going to spend my Christmas alone but - I have chickens, a dog and two cats to baby sit so I think I’ll be very busy 😄

Best wishes everyone!

Xo

Hello ASmileADay (and to everyone else who has written),

The good thing about this thread is that noone is alone.

If you feel down on Christmas or in the leadup or afterwards there are others in the same boat needing a bit of company too. So everyone is welcome here.

I love that even though there are a lot of negative things we feel this time of year if you read through the last few pages there are a lot of positives in the form of support and care and empathy.

Isn't this what Christmas Spirit means? Giving to others of ourselves not in presents but kindness. Thank you all for joining in 😊.

Hello Everyone,

There are too many of you to mention individually, isn't it wonderful to have such a variety of people communicating here on this thread!

Thanks to everyone for sharing. So many wonderful thoughts about how to cope with Christmas, stories from the past and hope for this Christmas and the days following.

Wishing you all some peace, joy and comfort as Christmas approaches.

After Christmas, don't forget New Year's! I'm sure there will be people wanting to share for New Year's as well right here.

Then we can all spot the Hot Cross Buns in the shops New Years Day!

Hi everyone

Last night when I picked my 14 year old up from the local indoor skate park one of the guys asked how I was coping with the stress of Christmas (he's like a big brother to my son and knows we've had a ruff year)

Well I kinda let my mouth engage before my head and told him Christmas is the least stress of the whole year in our family.

We are just going to watch Netflx, swim and be in aircon and a few big buckets of KFC. Also planning a Bunnings style sausage sizzle on the front veranda for anyone who wants to stop by.

He looked at me really strange and I told him I don't see any point in being around people I don't see or like the rest of the year just to be fake for 1 day.

My extended family has agreed sms is fine on the day because we all do our own thing.

My son will probably hang with mates because he's getting a pocket bike and a few of his mates will escape here to get away from family arguments and drinking.

I know it's all politically incorrect but what the heck. I'm in Queensland....bring on the mangos and Prawns😊😊😊

Hi Bethie,

I like your idea for Christmas. I would love to have an open house where anyone can drop in and join us.

Only thing though, I don't like prawns! I will bring along some steak for the BBQ if that is okay!

Cheers from Dools

Hey Dools

Yep even though your a kiwi😉. Secrect I'm a Tasmanian by birth so I think that makes me 50% Aussie 50% kiwi. Half way between. Gotta love a Queensland Christmas when the storms roll in over the ranges. If the city has fireworks like river fire we watch them from the veranda. Bugger traffic at this time of year. Even my phycolgist wount go on the roads.
