Hi guys

Definitely number 3. We're doing Christmas on the 24. Heaps of KFC. It the family favorite. Staying in aircon or by the pool and movies.

Christmas day is a open door Bunnings style sausage sizzle on the front veranda.

Alot of people in my area where badly affected by the 2011 floods and don't want to travel so most have said they'd stop by.

My son at 14 just wants to be with his mates and a few of them prefer to be here away from arguments and fights at home. It's ok. We'll just blow up a few airbeds for anykids that need to distress.

This is my first post. I like the idea of a Christmas hangout. I have a theme of birds in my Christmas tree- you find birds in trees so it makes sense. I have been collecting them for quite a few years. This year I am giving upon feeling sad that my children and grandchildren are not here. I am going to savour simplicity. I do have a lovely tree- itโ€™s a Wollemi pinein a pot, with quite a lot of birds. Happy Christmas.

Sally o welcome to the forums. Your tree sounds lovely. Are you doing anything for Xmas? I think it may be busy here, I will probably pop in during evening.

Hello Blue two,

Yep, itโ€™s difficult to reconcile the โ€œmust be happy, itโ€™s Xmasโ€ vs โ€œI canโ€™t do it because of xyzโ€ - whatever you do, you end up feeling โ€œfalseโ€, and left with very little choice that suits both you and your family/friends.

Do you have a big โ€œDOโ€ that you have to go to, or can choose something smaller with a few people you like?

Very happy to supply inventive/outrageous/simple solutions to avoiding the big โ€œDOโ€ ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Blue two and welcome,

im not sure if there is a thread specific to how to cope with Xmas but rest assured, you don't need to be fake and put on the happy face here. The forums are non nonjudgmental and you can be yourself. Christmas can be tricky, some have family, some are lonely, some love it, some hate it. Whatever and however you feel You can express openly here, youre not bringing anyone down at all. This 'chill out lounge' is to support everyone during this time. It may be busy here Xmas day, I should be popping in in the evening as I don't have anywhere to be.

Be yourself, be you we will do our best to get you through.

PBelle, what a great idea about Santa watching. I did this with my 4 year old, it works a treat. Your butterfly necklace sounds beautiful. I have one somewhere, think I'll did it out today. Butterflies mean our loved ones are near. Just after my mum passed away my daughter was at kinder and a butterfly landed on her hand and just sat there. The teacher took photo for me and told me it was my mum visiting her little granddaughter. So beautiful, still beings a tear to my eye and a smile to my face.

yes, shops are busy aren't they. I'm hoping to avoid them this week, and the traffic.

Hi Blue Two. Yes this thread is about how we manage Christmas. You donโ€™t need to be apologetic for whatever you feel. It is certainly a very difficult time for many of us! The expectations that we are happy is heavy! We feel what we feel. For me being able to acknowledge that sadness but not wallow in it is the challenge. Notice; let it go. Take care.

Hi Sally o,

Lovely to read your post, thanks for sharing. Mum used to have ornamental birds she would put on our Christmas tree. A friend posted some out to me from Holland a few years ago. I wonder if a "tradition" or a "meaning" goes with having birds on a Christmas tree.

Wishing you a happy Christmas, could you invite friends or neighbours to join you for Christmas if family are not around? I have invited friends to join us this year as they had no where to go and the more the merrier!

Cheers to you from Dools
