Hi Everyone,

Here are some ideas for helping you manage symptoms of anxiety. Feel free to add to the list, or let us know what works for you...

Mindfulness – Grounding exercises: noticing your environment, bodily sensations, and breath

Progressive Muscle Relaxation – Creating a Tension and Release effect with all the muscles in the body

Opposite Actions – By listening to calming music, taking a walk, talking, enjoying sunshine

Safe Place Mental Imagery – Visualising a place where you can go in your mind to feel safe

Calming Affirmations – To help recognise that the moment of panic will pass

Exercise – A valuable way to exhaust excess adrenalin built up in the body

Just wanted to say thank you for this thread, I'll have to take some time to read all of the comments.

Does anyone have any self help tips for depression, PTSD and social anxiety, or even meds (antidepressants)? It's fine if not, I've been looking at stuff.

Thanks again everyone for this thread.

Take care all.

Tayla

Having suffered epilepsy I have been on some powerful drugs.

I recommend you see a professional and explain as often they can help with this, it would unwise for us to give advice.

With depression, It started with a small thought and they became more and more frequent, eventually I believed all these thoughts, one day I realised they were lies and I started to not believe them and focused on other positive things going on in my life.

self isolation was a problem for me and I had to force myself to get out of the house and I would walk to cafe and sit there own my own drinking coffee watching people around me, this is what brought me out of isolation

Trust this helps

I already have a professional, a GP and a Psychiatrist, Blufftuff.

managing Anxiety is a very complex issue, but very relevant for today as we see the number of people suffering some form of anxiety growing everyday at an alarming rate.

here are some tips that helped me through my struggle with this.

I came to point where I just knew I had to do something to break this viscous cycle.

I decided to go for a walk daily as this got me out of the house and gave me something to look forward to.

Going for a walk along the beach or a walk through the park was soothing as well.

Even though I was on my own I forced myself to go to local cafe, even though I was on own it was busy and I felt like I was mixing with the people there.

Over time I was relating to cafe owner which was great, I also visited a retiree across the road everyday and he would make a coffee, not only was he helping me I was helping him as he did not get many visitors.

With all this starting to happen, my focus on life was changing and I was too busy to focus on my anxiety as I was now focusing the positive things I had going on, no matter how small they were.

Hope this helps someone today.

Hi Liam1

Thanks, I was a bit anxious now with the social distancing in place. Now that I can't get to see any friends I now have things that I can do at home since we are in a difficult time. I feel so much better having to adjust to new routines and I feel my good old days are now over, but I heard that safety is the number 1 priority and it's better safe than sorry. I can now have the time to relax and still go for walks. I'm now able to lift my mood by doing these things. I feel I'm now in a better place.

yes we are definitely in a different world to what we are used to

sounds really exciting you are able to adapt and still be positive and look on the bright side of life

keep it up as it will be an inspiration to others.

well done
