Hello
I've suffered anxiety for most of my adult life. It's been a mix of OCD, anxiety and panic attacks.
In the past year I'v developed chronic reflux, which some have said could be linked to my ongoing stress and anxiety. Do others also also experience this?

Hi, welcome
Reflux can be caused by a few things, in my case 3 peptic ulcers caused by anxiety. That began in 1987 and since have taken medication which your GP can discuss with you.
As for the anxiety itself discuss that with him/her also but in the meantime this thread below can give you some hope-

Dear Jef15~
It's always difficult to know what is the result of what, and that can particularly apply to physical symptoms that come about due ot anxiety and other matters. I know you have been tapering off your meds and I hope that is now going OK.
For what it is worth each of my anxiety-caused physical ailments have been checked out very thoroughly, and tend to be re-checked years down the track. Such things as headaches, chest pain, stomach problems and yes acid reflux.
There are other physical symptoms but that is enough for you to get the idea. I take a variety of medications and have done so for years, and one is for that acid reflux. Unfortunatly our minds can affect our bodies and while one can take medications that deal with the physical symptoms the only real way to get rid of them is when anxiety is a lot less.
Can I suggest you talk this over with your doctor, I get the impression is an understanding person, and see if there is any physical cause. Whenever I've done this it has actually helped to know the reason.
I hope in your case it is temporary and you are able to have one thing less causing you stress and worry.

Hey
Yes, i have in the past suffered from this. And its awful. So i know and understand the feeling.
Mine comes on when i least expect it too. I carry reflux tablets in my bag
I agree with going and having a chat to your GP. They may be able to help, or give you something to tame the reflux.
Best wishes
Jx

Hi Jef15,
I'm sorry you've been dealing with it. I've got GERD and completely understand how it feels.
Different things can trigger acid reflux from stress to food. I've found reducing fatty foods, soft drink and spicy foods definitely helps. Have you spoken to your GP regarding this? There are different products that can be available to help manage and then if that doesn't work they investigate further. In my situation they found I had GERD and stress can be a trigger...its different for everyone though.
Also, sleeping upright can help alleviate some symptoms.

I have been seeing multiple specialist for this issue, I've had an gastroscopy and biopsies. Im eating so bland, I'm doing all the right things you would do for reflux, and im not seeing results 😞

Hi there,
I am sorry this has been happening, it must be hard for you. Anxiety can manifest in many forms, but the best way to get to the bottom of your reflux is to see your GP.
I hope you find some answers,
Jaz xx

Sorry that you haven’t found relief, but it’s good that you’ve spoken to a GP about it. I have noticed when I get stressed it can play up more, it is uncomfortable when it’s chronic. Making time to relax has helped a bit.
