sleep in the old days

recently read an article about how people used to have split sleep cycle, 4 hours sleep then a 4 hour awake period then sleep untill the sun came up. We then cut out the awake period for efficiency. It's funny how many people with "mental illness" have a similar sleep cycle .. well I do at least. ..

Hi Little Rascal,

I have just read your post and have never come across this bit of information before. It is very interesting. I like how in some society's they have a two hour lunch break, a siesta or what ever you like to call it.

That makes a lot of sense to me. A couple of hours to rest, play or do what ever in the day would reduce a lot of stress and anxiety I am assuming for some people.

I'd like to read more on the sleep theory you have mentioned. I know I usually get to sleep easily enough, sleep for about three hours, am awake a while then slowly nod off to sleep again. I have a friend who is fast asleep the minute his head hits the pillow and does not wake up until eight hours later.

Thanks for this interesting bit of news. Sweet dreams to you!

dear Little Rascal, well I do know of a couple of people who have this problem, and one lady in particular who is 63 years old didn't sleep at all the other night, or she may do the opposite to what you have said, where she doesn't sleep for the first 6 hours and then only has 3 hours sleep, and she is taking AD's, whereas an elderly chap sleeps for the first 4 hours, wakes up and has to take a sleeping tablet, but his body is becoming used to them and have the effect for only 2 hours.

The trouble is that they know it's going to happen so their body becomes climatised to this so as usual every night it happens, and this is with the elderly chap. Geoff.

its so crazy peoples sleep patterns 🙂

I can fall asleep anywhere anytime, especially in stressful situations like exams 😕

but I wake up quickly, and also dream instantly, and either have to get up in the night and read/eat/drink and go back to bed. it was the same as a child too.

I get disorientated if I take sleeping medication, ive woke up scared, and other herbal sleep medication does the same, I wake up disorientated and scared.
