Hi stargirl,

Thanks for reaching out to BeyondBlue.  I'm sorry that high school has been so tough for you!

I don't know why people are mean.  Sometimes it can be because they have their own issues too and they just can't cope with them.  Some of the meanest kids at my school used to also be some of the saddest and the loneliest behind closed doors.

I'm sorry that you are crying during recess.  Is the other things that can help - like maybe seeing a school counsellor, or trying to find some new friends?  Sometimes even talking to the teacher can help because they might be able to find someone who is a bit upset too.

I hope this helps. You aren't alone 🙂

Hello, stargirl!

I am sorry that starting high school has been so stressful and unhappy for you.

It's so horrible that people are mean to other people, but you have nothing to feel bad about if they are treating you this way. Hopefully you will settle into your new school in time, but in the mean time I do think that maybe talking to someone might be helpful (school counsellor, teacher or even parent).

When I started at high school I was quite unhappy too because everything was new and I didn't know anyone etc. the first few months were really hard, but it got easier after that, and now I wouldn't swap schools for the world! I really hope that things get better for you, and please think about seeing someone.

Stay well,

Pontius
