I often wonder what the meaning is behind the usernames and avatars people choose for themselves.
So I am starting this thread to provide a place for everyone to talk about why they chose their username/avatar.
-- -- --
I chose the name SubduedBlues as I was once so very blue, but in time I overcame that feeling of being D'jected and I subdued my blues.
My avatar is an asiginaak (black hawk) which is my spirit totem. Where my Anishinaabe name is Agaaseni Waabishkigwan (Little White Feather), I do not use that symbology as I find that many Aussies & Kiwi's confuse it with the All Blacks football logo. I have an asiginaak totem above the threshold of my home, and other Native American symbolism about the place.

Star - Midnight sounds like one of those real success stories. Congratulations.
A new day, a new avatar (a shame the old ones don't stay with the old posts!) My current one is a rocky uphill path leading into the blue sky. The sun is shining, but the horizon is bordered with frozen mountain ranges. The photo also doesn't show the sheer mountain drop on the right of the flimsy fence!
This one represents an uphill battle, a path that is dangerous and uneven, but ultimately could potentially lead to blue sky and "wellness". The climb is difficult, and a wrong step could see one topple over the edge to oblivion! The reward at the top however is worth the risk and effort to get there!

Love the symbolism of your new avatar...and your attitude too.
Happy trails, TA.

Thanks Star.... not sure I'm fully comfortable with its "brightness" yet, but I'm working on it!
Do you have Midnight's journey anywhere? I'd love to learn more as I have rehabilitated a few rogues myself over time. If not posted elsewhere, could you maybe throw it in "Triumph against adversity" please? Thank you

Sorry R&R...I seldom visit the Pet thread as my work often leaves me totally dogged out. I wouldn't know how to concentrate 6 intensive months within the allowed characters. It is complex work. Besides, many people are uncomfortable with the similarities between the human and the K9 brain (the reason why dogs can get so close to us and understand our emotions so well).
So I will just briefly hijack (?) this thread to let you know that -should Midnight have been human- she would have been diagnosed with an array of mental conditions, the most obvious being Oppositional Defiant Disorder. Our long-suffering vet often jokes that the dogs I take on are all in need of a brain transplant !
Well done for keeping your thoughts focused on the brightness. It is the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. I's just that sometimes, sharp turns and steep inclines along the way hide it from view. It doesn't mean it isn't there.

I made my name gen the friend as a bit of a joke, cause it makes me seem like some creepy person on the internet, and now i just make all of my usernames this haha
And as for my profile pic, when i was in year 7 i made up an alien race called 'the emacions', a play on the word 'emaciated'. You'd understand why if you saw their bodies (their bodies were pretty much an emaciated floating torso). So recently (i'm 16 now) i decided to recreate the drawing i made of one of them as a painting, and i felt the painting matched my username pretty well. 🙂

Hi SubduedBlues, thanks for a great thread and everyone for their contributions.
Sorry to bring the party down, but this is probably a good time to remind everyone about your privacy and the information you're disclosing here on a public forum.
As you know, this is an anonymous space and we don't allow private contact between members, or the sharing of information that could personally identify you. Some items are obviously identifying - full names, dates of birth etc - but please also be careful about choosing display names that are the same as those you use on other platforms. If you want to check how secure your current display name is, pop it into google, and if it brings up anything other than posts you have made on here, then it's a good idea to get in touch with us and get it changed in order to protect your privacy.
Please also have a think about pictures you're using as an avatar. Some of you are using clearly identifiable face pictures that include yourself or family members. Taking care to keep personally-identifying details out of your posts will do no good if your posts are accompanied by a picture of you.
Just food for thought, and I don't want it to derail the topic of conversation here - you can get in touch with the moderators via email to discuss this further if you need to.

Hello all,
I find this an interesting thread also. I searched and found this minor Greek moon goddess named Achelois, whose purpose is to "drive pain away". Since this is my goal - to help others lesson their pain and in doing so, to lesson my own as well - it seemed appropriate.
I have put in an avatar but it has not been approved yet, but it is a picture of a woman facing the full moon, depicting the goddess and I preferred the rear view as a symbol of walking away from pain and towards the power of the moon.

I haven't picked an avatar yet, I might just stick with this because I'm so indecisive I'm not even sure I could pick one, but my name is because I have a dog named Darcy who definitely owns my heart and also thinks he owns everything that I have ever touched or even looked at.
