Not sure where to start

Hi, I'm new to this forum.  Firstly I joined because I feel totally alone with my feelings right now.  Since leaving my job 2 years ago I feel my mental health has spiralled down and it's not due to not having enough to keep busy or interested in life.  I have some friends I meet up with once a month and a loving husband and two lovely adult offspring, so one would ask, why am I in a pickle.....  I go down a rabbit hole of confusion even going to the shops can lead to me coming home in tears, people seem to hone in on my mental vulnerability and target me (I know that sounds paranoid).  I keep getting into situations with staff in the shops, everything seems so hectic, I feel like I'm in a vacuum.  It doesn't help that I have developed tinnatus over the past year and stuggle to  hear even if I wear the hearing aids.  So I'm feeling a bit like just shutting myself into the house and doing all my shopping online where I'll be safe.

I talked to my doctor but he said I am just having hormonal issues (I'm 62), I asked for anti-depression medication, but he said lets see how you go.... May have to go see another doctor as it's not getting any better.

It's so much more than the above, but I had to start somewhere...

Thanks for reading 😞

Hi JaydeB,

Opening up is here is a great start. Seeking help from a doctor who really isn't helping just doesn't seem right. You're completely right in seeking help from another doctor when you don't feel comfortable with the first one.

Have you opened up to your husband or children about your thoughts and feelings? I understand it's uncomfortable to let them see you this way and you may not want to burden them. If there is someone you can trust you can chat to or see a psychologist, it may help with unpacking your feelings or lead to what's causing you to feel this way.

As for tinnitus, I have it too. It sucks. It really does and impacts sleep and day to day life. I wish there is a way to get rid of it.

Hi JaydeB,

I'm sorry for your challenge. Obviously people targeting you are wrong and unacceptable.

You are the master of yourself and nobody understands your symptoms and your feeling better. I think you are doing the right thing. After seeing your doctor if you still have if you still have doubts and concerns, it's a good idea to seek second opinion, and try to ask a referral for seeing a psychologist. It'll be faster and easier to talk to a professional if you simply ring Beyondblue 24/7 hotline.

Hope everything will be fine.

Hello JaydeB, your doctor should have been aware that you can get help on the 'mental health plan' which entitles you to 20 Medicare paid sessions and suddenly developing tinnatus must be so annoying for you as I too am having similar problems and I'm 68.

Certainly get another opinion as this can't 'wait and see' it needs to be tackled straight away.

Hi  Suelynn,

Thank you for responding to my post, it really helps to get other people's opinions.  I do have an appointment today with another doctor, so will bring my issues up with him.  My husband is aware of my mental health issues at the present and tries to help out and I don't think I can talk to my children about things yet.

I'll certainly take on any advice given, thank you once again

Hi Mark

Thank you for responding to my post.  It means a lot to get other people's opinions, especially when they make sense.  I will be seeing another doctor today, so will ask for some help from him.

Once again, thank you for your advice, much appreciated.

Hi Geoff

Thank you for taking time to respond to my post.  It is always nice to have a sensible response and one I can follow.  I have another doctors appointment today, so will bring it to his attention and hopefully can get some help.

Yes tinnatus is a pain some days worse than others.

Once again thank you for your welcome advice
