Hi all.
Well I am 51 and I've been suffering from mental health issues for over 35 years. I never talked to my ex or family about my issues. Finally started to talk about all my mental health issues and getting help now
Two years after finally talking about it all, I am trying with the help of a lot of therapy to put myself back together.

Hi Michael1718, welcome to the forums. I hope you find this a safe, warm and welcoming space.
That's a pretty tough gig you described, getting through without telling anyone for decades.
How are you feeling about it all now?
Would you like to share some of your therapies with us and how successful or not they've been for you?
Is there anything more you'd like to share?
Welcome again.
EM

Hello Michael1718,
I would like to warmly welcome you to the Beyond Blue Forums...
Holding your thoughts and mental health issues in yourself for so many years would have been so hard to do...It is
hard to talk to our partners/spouses/ family etc about our mental health..,.just in case they don’t understand us...Holding it all in for so long would have been incredibly hard.,,while your trying to keep a mask on to hide it from others..
Well done getting help 2 years ago...I hope you continue to put yourself together...It’s a really courageous and brave step forward in reaching out for professional help...I’m so pleased you did that..
Please Talk here anytime you feel up to it..looking forward to hearing how you’re feeling since posting..
My kind thoughts with care care...
Grandy..

Hi Michael1718,
Welcome to the Beyond blue community. Glad to have you here.
Sounds like you have gone through a lot for the past 35 years alone, it's great that you have taken the step forward to seek mental health advice and help.
Having suffered through mental health issues for 35 years must have been difficult, I'm sure at times you must have felt alone and misunderstood. I want to assure you that you are not alone and many of our community members are here to support your journey, hear your story and share your their personal experience as well.
Take care!

Hello Michael, and I join the others in a warm welcome.
Struggling and suffering from any mental illness for such a long time changes our personality on what we say or how we are trying to cope in situations that don't befriend us is very difficult and can change our relationships.
We react differently on each occasion and may not be consistent which is not only confusing for us, but also to those around us and may result in circumstances we don't want.
Overall these years much may have changed affecting you in different ways and could allow you to pretend that nothing's troubling you, but each time only puts another problem you have to try and overcome.
If you'd like to tell us a little more, we would be happy to listen.
Geoff.

Hi Michael1718
Welcome to the forum community, we are a place where people with a lived experience of mental health and their carers and friends come together to support each other and make connections. We are happy you could make it here. It's great to hear that you are seeking therapy- that's a productive step. Feel free to use this thread to document your journey here too, if you like.
Sending kindness,
Tay100
