Hi Elaja 25,
You have said what you needed to say.
Anxiety can overwhelm all of us. You mention "thinking too much". We all often do and it gets us nowhere, at least nowhere comfortable. At times, we play horror movies in our heads, imagining scary stories of which we are the unfortunate victims. However, these stories with all their "what ifs" never happen in reality. They're only ghosts, haunting our peace of mind.
Has your GP spoken with you about referring you to a therapist who could help?
Meanwhile, congratulations for joining this forum. As you can see, you're not alone.
The human brain has been the model for computers (no wonder they sometimes run amok and fail us miserably). Nothing stops us from equipping our brains with an imaginary "delete" button. If we can imagine complicated horror stories, we can also do this. Whenever a negative thought comes to haunt you, click the delete button and focus on a positive alternative or activity. With practice and persistence this can help you switch off...or change the channel.
You say you have a happy family so this is a positive, valuable source of support.
Best wishes and a hug.

Well done Elaja25,
You're right, the brain is very powerful and it sometimes takes a lot of work under guidance not to be overwhelmed by this power and learn to aim it in a positive direction.
I sense a good measure of optimism in your last post. It makes me happy.
Of course, there will be setbacks along the way, but they're only part of the journey, challenges to be overcome, not failures.
My best wishes go with you.
