Hi
I had an IUD inserted about 5 years ago. I believe it is coming to the end of it's life. I am curious to know if anyone has experienced higher anxiety when it does?
It has been tricky lately as my anxiety is high and can only put it down to this as I am having no other major triggers.
I have read it can increase the anxiety and cause mood swings etc when it does. But not sure as the internet is full off good but also non factual information.
I have had some bleeding on and off.
But I feel I already have issues with my period but this is different.
I have had everything else like an ultra sound, pap smear done. I have a go appointment this Friday but just wanted to get some help if anyone else has had this issue.
Thank you

Hi there Truetomyself,

I thought I would check in to see how you went at your appointment? Your question is difficult as people respond to IUDs uniquely and there are a few types of IUDs on the market. I am certain that your GP/Gynaecologist will be able to respond to your concerns. 'Dr. Google' ie. the Internet, is certainly a place where there is a lot of information - some might say too much. You can gain knowledge about a condition or a treatment or in your case, your IUD, but it is not contextualised to you and your individual circumstances.

The first thing I would typically recommend is a visit to your GP (which you had already planned), so you are definitely on the right track. Something else I often recommend is keeping a side effect/mood/worry journal each day for a few weeks so you can look for triggers and patterns to your symptoms.

Having health anxiety is common but symptoms should always be reviewed by a Doctor. There are many people who post in the forum who have anxiety about their physical health, side effects, taking medication and treatments. You are not alone in your concerns.

Please let us know how you are going. We are listening.

Wishing you the best possible outcome,

Nurse Jenn

Thanks Nurse Jenn. I will do.
I really appreciate your response. I am glad I am on the right track. Just need to see the GP and talk. Then my mind will feel much better.
Thanks again.

Hi Nurse Jenn
I have been referred to my gynecologist who will give me a further specialist opinion and may refer me for further testing at this point.
The doctor was unsure completely what could be happening therefore my gynaecologist will give further examination and go from there. I will keep you posted. As the doctor was a bit stumped as well.

Hi the Truetomyself,

It is so great to hear that you are getting some specialised input into your health queries. I hope you have a positive experience with the gynaecologist and you get some clarity on your symptoms. I encourage you to keep a journal of any symptoms you have as well as writing down any specific questions you have for when you attend this appointment. You have been really assertive in making sure you get answers which is tough when you are not feeling the best. This shows great strength and investment in healing. Please acknowledge this persistence as being really important and know you are not alone on your journey.

Wishing you the best possible outcome,

Nurse Jenn
