Hi Mark
Yes the floods in Queensland look terrible.
We've had a storm here and some lovely rain. We've been having a bit of a pre-Christmas gathering with a few of the neighbours this evening.
It's nice to hear rain outside for a change, I hope you get some up your way!

Hi Mark, got my laptop back from the technician this afternoon so hope it is working OK! We've had a cool wind here but not rain - I love the cooler weather though.
I was lurking on reddit the other day and there was a discussion going on about the huge vehicles people drive now in Australia and how difficult it is in parking lots. I drive a small car and if I find myself in the supermarket car park between two large SUVs, I have to back way out before I can turn the car and get away, and it's scary as when I back out I can't see any cars coming because the huge vehicles each side of me block my view. It was interesting to read the whole discussion on rettit Australia! I wonder if you've come across this?
I noticed my bird bath has got a leak - the water level kept going down and I finally realized it's cracked. I've had it for ages and the birds love it. I looked at Ebay to find the same one and they all come from China and the reviews are bad - it seems to be the same seller and there are lots of complaints. I did see another one which looked really nice and had excellent reviews, cost about eighty dollars but at least it comes from Australia, so no overseas shipping long wait. I think i'll get that one.
Had a nice lunch out today at a Cambodian restaurant for a change.
I hope Sleepy is going OK. I'm off to get a cuppa and finally relax for a while!

- Hi Hanna that was quick getting your laptop back especially this time of the year.Their is a lot of big vehicles today hard to see getting out of a carpark shopping centre can't see around them and everyone drives so fast around the shopping centre carpark unfortunately.i have a birdbath and certainly gets a lot of use in summer.I had a scan in town yesterday and the traffic was terrible and the shops were so busy.Ran into my daughter and grandson at the shops and they are coming over Saturday for an early Christmas lunch and doing a glazed ham and roast chicken.Big storm here yesterday with lots of wind more forecast for today and into next week.

Hi Mark
Yes I'm avoiding the major shopping centres until after the school holidays finish! I've heard the traffic and parking are dreadful. How nice you are having family over or a Chrismtas meal and get-together! I am having a quiet lunch with a couple of friends - may go to the midnight mass Christmas Eve if it isn't too hot - it's forecast to be a scorcher and then I don't cope in a church that isn't air-conditioned!
It's been refreshingly cool here - I just did some supermarket shopping tonight as I figure tomorrow it will be getting really crowded. There are hoardes of holiday makers coming into town and the main street was almost at a standstill this morning. Had a light lunch with a friend at a local Cambodian restaurant and it was rather nice - it's an outdoors area with a nice breeze where we sat.
I ran into a lady I used to know a bit, her lovely big kelpie died some time ago - she has got a new little Maltese cross which seems sweet natured - I think like her I am better to go to a smaller dog than a Cocker Spaniel as I could easily pick up and carry little Sam - as I get older I think a small dog that is easily lifted in and out of the car and doesn't require very long walks might be the best. I will have to save up and keep looking for a rescue or a doggie on Gumtree.
I report on fake aninal rescue videos on Utube - I wish people would look at these videos carefully, most of them are staged and they actually hurt the animals or money. I see people giving big donations to these cruel people without checking that they are legitimate (most of them are not). There are several videos up now warning people about this and telling them what to look out for in the videos.
I miss having kids around at Christmas - I think Christmas Day is really for children to enjoy. Where I used to live the church used to collect gifts of toys and things for children in families who couldn't afford it and I used to really enjoy going out and buying a few nice toys!

Hi sleepy I hope you are feeling a bit better now.I was worried about you when you hadn't messaged for a few days.Thats good you have gone grocery shopping and have plenty of food now.Do you like having a lot of people around?I like being by myself and that's probably what I am use to from my school days and not having friends and being teased but that was a long time ago now. When my kids are here I am definitely not alone as my son will talk to non stop and ask many questions.I still don't know what I am doing about his schooling for high school and it is only 4 weeks away.I just don't want my son go through the bullying and teasing I went through at school. Its almost 4 in the morning here and am going to do a glazed ham now for my kids and grandkids that are coming over today and then cooking a roast chicken.I use to love cooking but can't get motivated cooking these days.
Take care,
Mark.

Hi Mark and Sleepy
Glad you are feeling a bit better Sleepy and that you have food in for the Christmas period! I have to hit Woolworths today but only for a couple of things and I'll probably go in the evening when it's quiet.
Sorry to hear about the chicken Mark what happened to it?
I am off to have a cuppa with a friend at an outdoor cafe some way from here - we have holiday makers pouring into town and the few cafes open here will be packed out, so we are driving some way out of town!
