Need help for my Boyfriend!!

Hi, I am very new to this and I am looking for help and support. My boyfriend suffers from depression, he is usually happy but lately he seems to be upset a lot more often and tends to take it out on me (not physically, just seems to blame me for things). Lately it has become more regular and I can usually see it coming as he is moody a few days in advance. Anyone have any advise or anything I could do to try and help him out?

Thanks!

Hi Oliver 22 and welcome to Beyond Blue.

If you don't mind, I have a few questions for you.

Does your boyfriend have a regular Dr he sees? Has the Dr diagnosed the depression? Is your boyfriend on any medication for his depression? Has he seen a psychologist or psychiatrist for his condition?

Here at Beyond Blue you can phone someone and ask for advice over the phone or use the webchat service also listed at the top of the site. Both are great ways to gain more understanding and assistance.

As you can see the mood change in your boyfriend, can you try to speak to him when you first notice the symptoms and ask what is wrong and if there is anything you can do to help him feel better.

Maybe you could look up some information on depression and do a little research for yourself to better understand your boyfriend's mental health issues.

If there is information you find that you feel relates to your boyfriend, on a good day you could ask him if he is willing to discuss it with you.

Do you know of anything that has made your boyfriend start to behave this way? Maybe ask him to write down what is going on in his head and he might come up with a reason for why he is acting this way.

You know him and I don't so some of these suggestions might not work at all. The more you have an opportunity to look at depression and how to assist someone suffering from it, the easier it may be for you to understand what is going on and to help him.

I hope some of this is helpful. Cheers for now, from Mrs. Dools
