What is your biggest (non mental health condition) achievement?

Was watching, "The Voice" last night and there was a young lass who didn't leave the house for two years because of panic attacks, how here she is on National TV singing in front of four judges.

I sat back and thought that even if no one turns around and picks her, she has already won - what a brilliant achievement that was.

What is your biggest achievement?

Mine is overcoming PTSD and functioning quite well but the mental health conditions aside, I would have to say completing my first marathon. A pure punishment of the mind and body and I completed this in the early days of my recovery when i was quite wounded and struggling.

To be able to push myself to complete it gave me a massive burst of confidence that I can overcome the PTSD beast and get on with life.

9 names & Banjoman, please let me know if you start your own threads for your respective journeys. They would be so fascinating.

You both are truly amazing human beings.

Calling law enforcement re a neighbor's stack of marijuana plants which he was pushing to kids

Its not my 'biggest' achievement by any means but I may have helped some kids by reducing local 'supply'

(the officers only took the plants and left a card....no charges...circa 1984)

The police (detectives) were 'too busy' Morons

Great posts so inspiring! I started reading them and was like wow ! These people are amazing ! Couldn't see how I could fit into this group! My husband asked me what I was doing told him and he said!

"are you kidding me everyday you inspire me with my business and you help the kids with their uni courses not to mention your parents sorting out housing for them before becoming homeless he pause opened the back door and called in out four dogs and said if it wasn't for you they wouldn't be alive you forced me to accept you to adopt them from the pound and rescued one from the tornado"

i guess I have achieved some goals ! I then realised that I really need to do something about this negative self talk and thought. Big part of my anxiety and depression.

I really don't like myself , I need to work on this . Even now feel embarrassed telling you all about my achievements like I do by deserve recognition!

Cpp, go look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself that you are well worth a smile and a pat on the back. You have achieved so much in your life and have so much in front of you.

Anxiety and depression eat away at our self esteem and self worth. You can get on top of this and using positivity is one that i have found to be very very valuable. I always find a positive out of every negative. No matter how small the positive, you must find one.

Have you heard of mindfulness? If not, download the "Smiling Mind" app and start using that - it will help you.

Again, I have to say that you have done so much in your life, be proud of who you are.

Mark Thank you for your kind words.

I have heard of mindfulness but never liked into it. You'll be glad to hear that I used it last night and today. The app you suggested.

I'm feeling more settled today. I'm definitely going to try it for the recommended 3 weeks to see if I start seeing an improvement. But have to say I'm pretty proud of myself today I made it out the door on time to work for the first time in a long time and had a productive one at that.

thanks again.

So the last two days I have been going for a jog at the gym. I don't particularly enjoy it (ok at first its ok but the last 5 minutes are the hardest) but I need to keep doing it to reach my goal of doing an olympic length triathalon in Janurary this year. I have been having a few rough days but I am glad I have still gone for my jog and trying to reach my goal

Cpp, that is so cool that you are feeling more settled and i look forward to hearing how the next few weeks are after using the app.

Getting to work on time seems such an easy thing to do for a lot of people but it is far from easy at times and for you to do that and importantly recognise and be proud of what you did, awesome. Well done!!

MsPurple, most certainly running at time can be incredibly boring and it becomes hard work but your application to it will pay off that is for sure.

When things get hard, just picture yourself finishing off an olympic distance tri and the achievement that, that will bring.
