Walking Shoes - Walking and Other Exercise

Hey to anyone reading this.

Last night I had an idea about starting a new thread about exercise especially walking. I am aware that walking is very beneficial for our mental, emotional and physical well being. And by actually doing it....well it can make a huge difference to how we cope with the storms that we face in life.

OK, I am not real good at disciplining myself to walk, and have to really push myself to do it. And sometimes it is even hard to leave this bedroom. Anyway I am not a beginner walker, as I have stuck to sort of a plan before. So I know that it does make me feel somewhat better. But I only stayed on the plan for a couple of months, then gave up.....for whatever reason. So here I am again wanting desperately to not fail this time.

So I guess this thread is for anyone that does walk, anyone that is struggling to walk because of depression or anxiety issues. And anyone else really......

I am unsure of the outcome of all this. But my ideas included: Sharing about things we have found out about exercise especially about walking. Writing down the reasons that one would chose to walk ( like something to help motivate). Being accountable in same way. Sharing about the places where we actually do walk, like the beach, gym, around the block, with the dog, out to the clothesline and back. And any other useful tips that could help others. So here we go......

Hi Mrs D, I like how you see a drive and a walk a reward for yourself. Was it restful for you walking in the park?

I am sorry about your work. I am not sure what else to say about that.

Definitely blisters can be painful. My feet feel relatively good this evening . I am so thankful because I did want to walk yesterday and the day before. But couldn't much. So tomorrow I should be right to get on out to the ocean again.

Hi Banksy92,

Nice sharing you had! Walking is definitely a good way to refresh oneself and it is good for the brain especially before work. At times, it is just nice to talk to nature and appreciate its beauty. Normally, I do my walking near the lake coz the water refreshes my soul and bringing back my sanity. The quiet time helps me a lot these days specially we have been in lockdown for some months now. Fortunately, we are allowed to go out for some hours. Seeing other people walking is fascinating for me coz at times I am just by myself.

Walking is one of my self-care activities.

Happy Day to All and Enjoy!

Hi Maria, You are right walking is great in so many ways. I also like seeing other people out walking often with their families enjoying themselves. Being in lockdown makes you really appreciate those simple things like getting out to walk near a lake or lovely gardens or bushland.

I haven't walked much this week. On Tuesday I walked to the local chemist to pick up a 2nd lot of antibiotics for my hsb as his chest infection hasn't improved. Not an exciting walk but at least it gave me some exercise. Yesterday & today I did some gardening but didn't get time to walk. Appointments took up a lot of time this week.

Wave to Elizabeth, Mrs D, Grandy, Maria and Bansky.

I went walking with my sister this afternoon. It was so good to catch up with her.

We parked our cars in the Library carpark and walked from there. We walked past peoples homes and past a primary school. Actually the school has some real cute playing equipment in the playground. We could see it through the wire fence. There was timber tipie, little timber kitchen with tin cake pans, little timber chairs all sort of within a sandpit area. Super cute.

We walked past a real estate office and over the bridge near the train station.

Ok my exercise today was cycling around thd block once. I think I started to get chased by a dog. I didn't look behind me to see. But could hear barking behind me for a bit. It just made me cycle faster. Good for a cardio workout anyway. I do like dogs, but I know someone that got chased and biten by one as they rode their bike.

I went walking on Breakwall Path today. About half the distance as I only had a small amount of time to be out there. It was good though, the water looked beautiful and clear. And the sunshine felt good on me

Hello Shelly and everyone...

Last year..or early this year I dug a garden bed across my front fence...I have some Irises...blue, deep purple and white ones..a beautiful deep purple daisy...some Lillie’s and just scattered some seeds over the top....

The exercise I done today ...

I did a lot of heavy lifting, walking, bending, sorting out and laying some not so heavy and some really heavy Bush rocks....Kind of life lifting weights Rogen walking to the front..lowering the weight and wriggling them around.,,,Woohoo...I done a gym session in my front garden,,,all up I done 6,438 steps...

Shelly....you sharing your beautiful description of the break wall..inspired me to put some bush rocks to surround my garden....Funny isn’t it how we can be inspired to do something completely different to what was read.....When you mentioned the lighthouse it reminded me of the old lighthouse we used to visit...Sitting on the bench at the top of the lighthouse all we could see were rocks....

Hugs and care...🤗🕊..

Finally was able to use the treadmill in the front room. The room had been a messy storage type room for so long. It has almost been cleaned up. The treadmill was amongst all the mess. I liked walking on that today, I walked whilst looking out the window for 30 minutes.

Oh yeah Grandy it does sound like you did a gym workout lifting, bending etc with all those rocks. Are these the ones that were near your fence?

Your garden sounds beautiful, I think I would like it a lot as it sounds like my colours.

Lighthouses are absolutely beautiful, the ones I have seen anyway. There is something about them. Nice and airy and light way up on hills maybe

Hi all,

I know a lot of people like to walk outside but if you want an alternative, have a treadmill and want to get more out of it I have an app called BitGym, it’s so good! It’s hundreds of tours all over the world, you can walk through Japanese rainforests, hike mountains in Canada, meander around the Eiffel Tower or through the streets of New York. The person who records the footage originally walks the same path that you do with a camera mounted on them, so you start the app, pick a tour and while you walk on your treadmill you can watch the footage so you feel like you’re walking somewhere super adventurous. Hope that helps someone.
