Hey to anyone reading this.
Last night I had an idea about starting a new thread about exercise especially walking. I am aware that walking is very beneficial for our mental, emotional and physical well being. And by actually doing it....well it can make a huge difference to how we cope with the storms that we face in life.
OK, I am not real good at disciplining myself to walk, and have to really push myself to do it. And sometimes it is even hard to leave this bedroom. Anyway I am not a beginner walker, as I have stuck to sort of a plan before. So I know that it does make me feel somewhat better. But I only stayed on the plan for a couple of months, then gave up.....for whatever reason. So here I am again wanting desperately to not fail this time.
So I guess this thread is for anyone that does walk, anyone that is struggling to walk because of depression or anxiety issues. And anyone else really......
I am unsure of the outcome of all this. But my ideas included: Sharing about things we have found out about exercise especially about walking. Writing down the reasons that one would chose to walk ( like something to help motivate). Being accountable in same way. Sharing about the places where we actually do walk, like the beach, gym, around the block, with the dog, out to the clothesline and back. And any other useful tips that could help others. So here we go......

Do you still have a scooter then Paws? Think I may have used one at my nan and Grandads when I was a child. Cannot quite remember.
I too have been on roller skates and roller blades, as well . I couldn't do either of those. Just wasn't confident.
And yeah I thought about getting a secondhand scooter or a skateboard. Been looking on Facebook Marketplace.
I have been really watching others cruise along on them, while I walk on Breakwater Path. To see how they do it.
Thankyou for talking with me Paws. You have one of those pedal things don't you? How are you going on that?

Hi Shell, Paws, Elizabeth and all Reading,
Maybe you could try a scooter to start with. I would certainly be better off with one of those, but one with crash bars and maybe a roll cage while I am wearing a helmet, knee and elbow pads! I tend to fall off push bikes due to a dreadful sense of balance.
People do make the use of a skateboard look so easy. My sister used to have one, I borrowed it and crashed a few times. I ended up sitting on it going down the track and that was fun.
Roller skates can be a lot of fun as well. Like everything, I guess it just takes practise! Sometimes I have seen skateboards in second hand shops.
I'm hoping to go for a walk later today. Might go for a drive and find somewhere different to go walking.
Cheers all from Dools

Hey Mrs D, is that for real you would fall of a push bike?
Hope you enjoy your walk today, maybe in a different place.
And yeah the more I think about having a go on a scooter, the more I am curious to. So many around here are using them. All different ages. It really does look fun. I have been so scared to try out new things for a very long time. Even some zooming along on electric ones look fun. I do like visiting op shops, so I will have a look.

Hello Shell, wave to Mrs D,
When I read your question about when I last used a scooter my initial thought was... oh not long ago I used it when minding my brother kids... then I worked out how long ago it was.... ummm 35 odd years ago... ok not as recently as I had thought... but I do remember how much the kids & I enjoyed scooting about... they are so easy to use having the handle bar to help balance...
I have looked at my pedal machine every day... as for my using it... that has been almost as rare as hens teeth... I won't make any excuses for not using it... just not motivated enough... I know I need to push myself... especially with my buying comfort food... today a block of old gold dark chocolate..

Yeah time seems to go quick sometimes, doesn't it. Thats great you spent time being a fun loving auntie. Wonder if they remember you riding along on a scooter with them. It's nice anyway.

Hi Shell, Paws and all reading,
Catching up has been a bit spasmodic, I have been experiencing some headaches and migraines which haven't been a lot of fun!
Yesterday I did go for an early morning walk and had a couple of kangaroos hopping out of the bushes just in front of me, that was exciting. I stopped so they had time to navigate the fences either side of the old road I was walking along.
An Aunt and Uncle taught me how to roller skate. Uncle tied a cushion to my backside and little ones to my knees as well. I used to like roller skating.
Shell, I am rather unsteady on a push bike until I get going. Haven't ridden one of those for years.
Is there a skate park close to you? Maybe you could watch people there. Some of them may be very happy to explain techniques to you if you ask them.
I have a little pedal machine somewhere too! I had forgotten about it. Ha. Ha. Maybe I will get mine out Paws, it might help with rehabilitating my knee!
I am planning a walk in a nature reserve later this morning. Cheers to you all. from Dools

At least you can balance on one of those pedal machines Mrs D, rather then on a push bike. Do you think it would hurt your knee more... I really don't know.
Those migraines and headaches sound awful. I am sorry you experienced them. Do you know what caused them?
That is cute wearing cushions like that while you roller skated. Nice Aunt and Uncle too, to do that for you. I cannot remember any of my aunt and Uncles loving me in that way.
Don't think I would be bold enough to ask any skate boarders for any tips or techniques. But I could definitely watch them. There are quite a few skate parks around me. Even a largest one near the beach.
Nice that you saw some kangaroos when you were out walking. I am guessing they jumped the fence.
Hope you enjoyed your walk in the nature reserve.

Hi Shelley and all,
Hope you are all doing okay today. I had a lovely walk in the Conservation park yesterday. I heard a few birds, saw a kangaroo and enjoyed the different colours in the plants and bushes around me. I like to take photos on my phone.
A friend has been photographing some tiny fungi so I tried to do the same thing, some of the shots worked out well. I enjoyed my walk.
This morning I walked along the same road where I saw the kangaroos the other day, but there were none in sight today. I did see a lot of magpies though.
Shelley I am not sure if the cycle contraption would hurt my knee or not, best way for me to find out is to try it. At least I can stop immediately if it causes discomfort.
The weather is glorious outside so I will ensure I soak up more sun later.
Cheers all from Dools

Good on you for going out for a walk. Do you know the names of the birds you heard in the conservation park? I would like to know the names of the ones I hear and see. I do know some of them though.
I remember you saying once before that you like to take photos on your phone. Do you have them on Instagram or something? I have photos of different meals I make on Instagram, In hope to keep me motivated to eat nourishing foods.
Taken a few of the breakwall and views from lighthouse Hill when I go walking there.
Did you end up getting some sunshine that day? And does it make you feel a bit better when you do? It does for me sometimes. The sunshine and fresh air.
I haven't been walking out there for a couple of days. Hoping tomorrow I will.
