Walking Shoes - Walking and Other Exercise

Hey to anyone reading this.

Last night I had an idea about starting a new thread about exercise especially walking. I am aware that walking is very beneficial for our mental, emotional and physical well being. And by actually doing it....well it can make a huge difference to how we cope with the storms that we face in life.

OK, I am not real good at disciplining myself to walk, and have to really push myself to do it. And sometimes it is even hard to leave this bedroom. Anyway I am not a beginner walker, as I have stuck to sort of a plan before. So I know that it does make me feel somewhat better. But I only stayed on the plan for a couple of months, then gave up.....for whatever reason. So here I am again wanting desperately to not fail this time.

So I guess this thread is for anyone that does walk, anyone that is struggling to walk because of depression or anxiety issues. And anyone else really......

I am unsure of the outcome of all this. But my ideas included: Sharing about things we have found out about exercise especially about walking. Writing down the reasons that one would chose to walk ( like something to help motivate). Being accountable in same way. Sharing about the places where we actually do walk, like the beach, gym, around the block, with the dog, out to the clothesline and back. And any other useful tips that could help others. So here we go......

Gym tonight

I went on the cross trainer for 20mins, then 5 different kinds of assisted weights. I did notice I was not lifting as much as I was able to before. But that is ok. In between sets I focused on breathing well. Breathe in for 6, hold for 6, then breathe out for 6 and repeat.

I am glad I drove down there.

Hello 🙂 😊

yes it would be a sort of satisfaction muscle ache. Like you have achieved something, do you think? Plus it makes you feel better when our surroundings are clean and ordered. Well it can make me feel better.

You did a lot of good exercise there Malaika.

And yes I try to make some of my walks into a mini adventures. I think it is more enjoyable for me like that.

You do sort of sound young at heart. I don't think the number in years we are makes any difference. I still feel like a little girl sometimes. I like watching children's movies, like swinging on swings, like sitting on the floor having tea parties with little ones. And even playing with lego.

Hope you soon mend, with all those muscles getting a workout.

8pm Gym

I chose to work out on the cross trainer at the gym. I was on it for 20mins. I could feel it doing me good.

Chose to walk on the breakwater path this morning. So windy out there today. But nice.

Saw the branch /driftwood hut from the path, way out there on the beach. The one I mentioned about a few posts back.

Felt a light spray of water on me a couple of times while walking along too. Not from a wave though. Just blowing from the top of water I think.

Walked to the end of the path and back.

Gym last night... 10 mins on the cross trainer. Would have gone longer. But so tired. Told myself 10 mins is better then not at all on the way home.

Beach walk +path

This morning I walked to the end of the beach. Sometimes walking in the cool water. The wet sand felt midly gritty. Still feeling a bit tired. I only slept 5 hours last night, plus ate junk food yesterday. This definitely has a impact on how walking or any exercise goes for me.

Noticed the driftwood hut, this time no longer standing. Just a pile of logs.

Walked to the end, up the small sand dune up onto the path. Then walked along on that.

Feel really glad I still got out there.

Hi all. This afternoon I powered walked in the local shopping centre as I had so much to do in a short time. Felt great. Twas under cover. Not many people there so it just suited me fine. To walk from one end to the other end of the shopping mall is approx 5km. Got my affairs done and exorcising at the same time. Regards

Hi Guest how you going

That is a good use of your time power walking as you do errands

So very cute the small dog in the basket. He or she was sitting enjoying the experience. We saw a guy riding his bike with a square cane basket on the back. And in there was the little happy dog. Strapped in.

The rider and the dog passed as we were walking on the breakwater path. Soo super cute.

We saw lots of dogs out today, properly because it was Sunday. As we walked past the doggie beach, there were some chasing each other on the sand.

There were many walking on leads on the path as well.

We walked to the end of the path, then took on the small sand dunes leading to the beach itself. We walked back that way.

Noticed the pile of driftwood from the hut was still there too.

Went walking on the breakwater path this evening. Very dark. Walked via torch light. Felt invigorating cold on my face.

Hello Shelll. It's good you're able go on long walks though balance is required to enjoy life as best as can. Lots of us do exercise for various reasons. the main focus is because it's good for us epecially when suffering MH of any kind.. I don't have the stamina nor the strength to do what you're able to accomplish, however, any kind of movement is better than no movement at all. Today I felt a tiny bit better so with huge effort/struggle on my part, I actually got round cleaning the car. A huge effort with bending twisting turning I felt every part of my body getting a good workout without even going to a gym. Took a while to do.. was getting cold and dark yet was able finish cleaning it and to house it. That's as good as any exercise the gym. Felt a bit sore yet happy I finally got well over due job done. You take care with kind regards
