Hey to anyone reading this.
Last night I had an idea about starting a new thread about exercise especially walking. I am aware that walking is very beneficial for our mental, emotional and physical well being. And by actually doing it....well it can make a huge difference to how we cope with the storms that we face in life.
OK, I am not real good at disciplining myself to walk, and have to really push myself to do it. And sometimes it is even hard to leave this bedroom. Anyway I am not a beginner walker, as I have stuck to sort of a plan before. So I know that it does make me feel somewhat better. But I only stayed on the plan for a couple of months, then gave up.....for whatever reason. So here I am again wanting desperately to not fail this time.
So I guess this thread is for anyone that does walk, anyone that is struggling to walk because of depression or anxiety issues. And anyone else really......
I am unsure of the outcome of all this. But my ideas included: Sharing about things we have found out about exercise especially about walking. Writing down the reasons that one would chose to walk ( like something to help motivate). Being accountable in same way. Sharing about the places where we actually do walk, like the beach, gym, around the block, with the dog, out to the clothesline and back. And any other useful tips that could help others. So here we go......

Just got back from walking out near the beach. That breakwater path that I use to walk on a lot has been closed off for a few months for an upgrade. Today it was all opened up, so we walked on that, right to the end and back. It has a new railing all along which looks like an old lookalike railing from a large and beautiful ship. Sort of with black cylinder shape posts. I liked it. The path was all new too. Much smoother. And they had cleared a lot of vegetation at the beginning of the path, so every now and then you could see the ocean on one side, over the sand tunes. Bit of a challenge to describe.
We also walked up the steep lighthouse hill. I was puffing. Once we reached the top, we looked out into the vast ocean. It was super windy up there, and it felt like I was being pushed along by the wind. I peered in some of the old white painted buildings. I like doing stuff like that. I don't believe anyone lives there though.

A merry Christmas to you both too Mrs D and Quirky.
Pelicans are such cute birds, just because of their very unique pouchy looking beaks.
Are you in hotel quarantine Quirky, is that what you said? Suppose you could look at pictures on the walls as you walk

Hi Shell and All,
Hope Christmas was okay for you Shell. I'm remembering the good bits about our Christmas.
I was planning on a walk this morning but it was already or still 27 degrees outside at 6.00 a.m. with a hot northerly blowing so I didn't go. I did do a little watering in the garden.
I saw the strangest thing, we have a flock of galahs that are calling our place home. Early this morning as they were flying around erratically as they seem to do, I noticed an eagle flying with them!
I'm off to work again soon! Looking forward to a day off tomorrow! Hopefully it will be cooler and I will be encouraged to go walking.
Cheers to you Shell and to all reading from Dools

Last night we went for a walk on the new breakwater path again. And it was good to get out there. Meaning I made myself look out for the good things about it. I noticed the path and how the brick pattern looked sort of pretty the way it was arranged on the side. Think it was stamped on. I felt the strong breeze and liked how refreshing it felt on my body. I looked at the new black cylinder post rail that reminded of a rail on an old ship. I like old world looking things. I liked how it felt a bit like an adventure using a torch to shine some light to actually see. I like adventures. And I liked all the colourful lights in the distance when we were walking back. Lights from the small city.
I am thankful I walked

Hi Shell and to all reading,
Thanks for sharing your walk and all the details you noticed. It is interesting walking at night, torch light can enhance and expose things you might not notice during the day.
I'm about to go for a walk shortly in our small town.
Yesterday I walked past the reaped crops and saw 3 kangaroos in the paddock. I liked the pattern the farm machinery had made in the crops. I will choose a different road to walk on this morning.

Hi Shell,
We are about to dash out the door, just saw your post here.
It is lovely to read about your walks and everyone else's activities as well. You describe things so well and have me picturing what you may be seeing. It also encourages me to look out for more things when I am walking.
I don't always have the words to write either and that is okay! Replies aren't always necessary. When people are able to share what they are doing and have experienced we can all gain from it. The gift is in the sharing!
All the best from Dools.

I don't normally make new year resolutions. But I want to this time for the year 2021.
My goals for 2021 in regards to exercise and walking are.
I want to have a go at a least 4 different types of exercise or activities that get my body moving. I have one in mind that I wanted to do this year 2020, but it never came about. In that is horseriding.
The other three I really don't know. Maybe yoga, I sort of would like to know how to do that properly. Maybe take a class, this may involve coming up against fear. Fear of being with others, and what they may think of me.
I also want to loose weight and get fit again.
Maybe go to some more national parks and go walking in them and investigate them. Maybe a different one each month.
I do have a kickboard that I could use in the water at the ocean baths. And I have a new pair of prescription goggles so maybe I could make use of those.
I do like dancing, so maybe that is an option. I could take some classes in that. Though it does sound kinda scary being with people.
I have been so less motivated this year to physically move around. My resolution for 2021 is for that to change. I do desire to be a healthier weight, this allows me more freedom to physically do more.. So yeah I want to be fit.

Walking is another gift my father gave me, he walked everywhere, he once walked 22Km with me on his shoulders. Talk about carrying me through life.
We used to have speed walking races on the way to school, loved trying to race up hill, calf muscles screaming out no.
It does not feel the same anymore, I try to walk to where we once did but...
I usually walk one or two hours a day, it's just, I don't know.
